From 2010: Error Divides, Catholicism Unites
Here is an October 29, 2010, listing of just a few of the articles that had appeared on this site up to that point that had attempted to explode the myths of naturalism in all of its forms, including the condemned heresy of Americanism:

Perhaps now you can understand why there are times, especially when I am physically exhausted, which is pretty much all of the time, I am tempted to say, "How much more of this can I write? I've written it hundreds of times." Conscious of the fact, however, that people do forget and that they may not retain what they have read in the past, I have sought in the past three months to continue my writing about naturalism and conciliarism (that list of articles will be updated at some point soon), mindful also of the fact that there are new readers who happen upon this site for the first time. Such a list as the one provided above might be helpful for new readers, to say nothing of providing a resource for longtime readers that can be book marked for future referencing.
Although I have repeated the same themes in the context of seemingly "new" controversies, each of which arises because of the delusional belief that man can organize his own affairs and those of his nation's without subordinating himself to the Deposit of Faith that Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ has entrusted exclusively to His Catholic Church for Its eternal safekeeping and infallible explication and without seeking to cooperate with Sanctifying Grace, I am going to do so again prior to the ending of the current cycle of naturalist madness that are the "off year" elections for all four hundred thirty-five seats in the United States House of Representatives and for thirty-seven seats in the United States Senate, including three to fill the unexpired terms of former United States Senators Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr. (D-Delaware) and Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-New York) and the late United States Senator Robert C. Byrd (D-West Virginia). There are also gubernatorial elections in thirty-six states and elections for forty-six state legislatures.
As noted two days ago in Still Utterly Defenseless Against Itself, the Protestant Revolution against the Divine Plan that God Himself instituted to effect man's return to Him through the Catholic Church has turn asunder the very bonds of Faith that are supposed to unite men in a true supranationality of mind, heart, and purpose. The Catholic Faith is meant to be the lingua franca (a commonly understood language that bridges cultures) that unites men no matter where they live and in spite of their cultural and/or ethnic differences. Nothing can be successful in replacing this bond of true unity, not even the false worship of national mythologies, nationalism, that has been responsible for so much warfare among nations and oppression of ethnic minorities within nations in the past one hundred years or so. Catholicism is the bond that is meant to unite men together in this passing, mortal vale of tears as a preparation for their reunion in the Church Triumphant in Heaven for all eternity.
To be sure, as Pope Pius XII noted in his first encyclical letter, Summi Pontificatus, October 10, 1939, the era of Christendom, that time when Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ reigned as King over men and their nations, had its difficulties. Human nature is wounded by the vestigial after-effects of Original Sin and by the after-effects of the Actual Sins of men, who must always be on their guard against yielding to various temptations and thus making themselves instruments of disorder in their own personal lives as well as in their relations with others. Pope Pius XII's words in this regard speak for themselves:
It is true that even when Europe had a cohesion of brotherhood through identical ideals gathered from Christian preaching, she was not free from divisions, convulsions and wars which laid her waste; but perhaps they never felt the intense pessimism of today as to the possibility of settling them, for they had then an effective moral sense of the just and of the unjust, of the lawful and of the unlawful, which, by restraining outbreaks of passion, left the way open to an honorable settlement. In Our days, on the contrary, dissensions come not only from the surge of rebellious passion, but also from a deep spiritual crisis which has overthrown the sound principles of private and public morality. (Pope Pius XII, Summi Pontificatus, October 10, 1939.)
The general spirit of division and rebellion that has been at work in the world in the past forty-hundred ninety-three years since Father Martin Luther, O.S.A., posted those ninety-five theses on the door of Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany, on October 31, 1517, keeps getting more and more pronounced. Most men in the so-called "developed" nations, including the United States of America, define their lives by material success almost exclusively. This is the reason, you see, that various polls indicate that large numbers of Catholics who supported the pro-abortion statist named Barack Hussein Obama on November 4, 2008, are likely to vote for the naturalists in the Republican Party this year. Money trumps the babies with these Catholics voters as it does with so many other voters, and this is why most, although not all, politicians of the naturalist "right" are even refusing to speak about "social issues" this year as the "people" are concerned with their "money."
Lost in all of this madness, as has been explained so many times before on this site (see the list above!), is the fact that God will never permit a nation that sanctions the daily slaughter of the preborn under cover of the civil law to know material prosperity over the course of the long term. Indeed, we are in the midst of a chastisement as a result of our placing monetary and hedonistic interests before a simple observance and due subordination to the binding precepts of the Divine Positive Law and the Natural Law as they have been entrusted to the Catholic Church for their safekeeping and explication. So few understand or accept this fact. And the few who do have taken seriously Archie Bunker's frequent command to his wife, Edith Bunker. They have stifled themselves quite voluntarily in order to get elected. And once having learned to keep their mouths shut in one election will continue to keep their mouths shut as they dance to the materialistic tunes demanded of them by their own demigods and employers, "the people."
Mind you, there are still many Catholics, particularly in the states of California and Washington and New Mexico and Illinois and Pennsylvania and New York and Maryland and Delaware and every single one of the New England states (Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine) who think nothing of supporting out-and-out pro-aborts for public office.
The hideously arrogant Attorney-General of the State of New York, Andrew Cuomo, is going to trounce the human "sound bite," Carl Paladino. He will receive lots of support from Catholic voters--as will the pro-abort United States Senators Charles Schumer, who is running for his third term in office, and Kirsten Gillibrand, a pro-abort Catholic who is running to serve out the remaining two years of United States Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton's second six-year Senate term.
Pro-abort Christopher Coons will trounce Christine O'Donnell in Delaware.
Pro-abort United States Senator Barbara Mikulski, a Catholic who has maintained her perfectly good standing in the structures of the counterfeit church of conciliarism, will win by a landslide over her challenger, Eric Wargotz.
Pro-abort Richard Blumenthal, the serial liar who is the Attorney-General of the State of Connecticut, will win by a comfortable margin his pro-abortion Republican opponent, Mrs. Linda McMahon, who has maintained her "good standing" in the structures of the counterfeit church of conciliarism despite her open support for chemical and surgical baby-killing.
Pro-abort David Cicilline, the Mayor of Providence, Rhode Island, who is an open practitioner of unnatural vice, stands to defeat his Republican opponent, John Loughlin, despite the fact that Rhode Island is the state with the largest percentage of Catholics in the nation.
Large numbers of Catholics in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts will vote to re-elect incumbent Governor Deval Patrick, a close ally of President Barack Hussein Obama. Others will vote for the pro-abortion Republican nominee, Charlie Baker, and his lieutenant governor running mate, Richard Tisei, yet another open practitioner of unnatural vice. An independent candidate, Tim Cahill, stated on May 25, 2010, that "I believe in and support a women's right to choose. I also believe that abortion should be safe, legal, and rare," although his website removed all references to abortion as of July 27, 2010 after he received an undeserved endorsement from the Massachusetts Citizens for Life organization (see Tim Cahill's Suddenly Missing Position on Abortion).
The principal reason that many Catholic voters who voted for the pro-abortion Obama are likely to vote for Republican candidates this year is the state of the economy. The blood of the innocent? Ah, the "pocket book" matters much more than the Fifth Commandment.
Sure, Republicans are likely to pick up between fifty and eighty seats in the United States House of Representatives. At the same time, however, Democrats are likely to retain control of the United States Senate, although a Republican majority there is not entirely out of the question. If Republicans do win control of both Houses of Congress, they will lack a veto-proof majority to override the reigning caesar's veto of any bill to repeal ObamaCare and Republicans in the Senate would lack a filibuster proof majority there. That which has been enacted already will stay in place as Obama demonizes the "right" for failing to address the "real needs" of the American people. Although Obama is in a whole lot of trouble politically now, so was William Jefferson Blythe Clinton at this point in 1994. Clinton roused himself from his morose, self-piteous stupor after the 1994 elections and used all manner of demagogic devices, including the use of outright lies, to tame his Republican opponents in Congress. Whether Obama can do in 2011 what Bill Clinton did in 2012 remains to be seen. Anyone expecting massive reversals of Obama's agenda, though, is not thinking clearly.
Yes, this all makes for good, exciting political theater, a veritable spectator sport. It's always nice to see statists humbled. Whether Barack Hussein Obama is capable of being humbled by a massive defeat of his party's candidates for the United States House of Representatives is quite another matter. He has show himself thus far to be incapable of accepting any kind of criticism, resorting to blaming the voters for being "impatient" with him. Remember, the reigning caesar said the following in 2008, and he believes it now just as much as he believed it then: "We are the ones we have been waiting for."
This country is divided needlessly along the lines of the "left" and the "right" as most of its citizens are concerned principally about material prosperity almost the exclusion of everything else (including the fact that Americans are still dying in the quagmire that is Afghanistan), heedless of First and Last Things. These needless divisions are the result of the overthrow of the Social Reign of Christ the King wrought by the Protestant Revolt and furthered by the various naturalistic forces that can be referred to as Judeo-Masonry. Most people think in these naturalistic terms alone, which is why so many people get angry to stomp on those who are supporting someone they oppose (as happened when a supporter of Rand Paul, the Republican senatorial nominee in Kentucky, stomped on a "MoveOn" activist and as happens in various places in this nation when union thugs and goons, most of whom are Catholics, beat up on pro-life Americans who picket Barack Hussein Obama or Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr.). This is also why candidates or their close associates use profanities to refer to opponents (as Mrs. Jerry Brown did when referring to her husband's Republican gubernatorial opponent in California, Meg Whitman).
These words of Pope Pius XI, contained in his first encyclical letter, Ubi Arcano Dei Consilio, December 23, 1922, come to mind in this context:
Men today do not act as Christians, as brothers, but as strangers, and even enemies. The sense of man's personal dignity and of the value of human life has been lost in the brutal domination begotten of might and mere superiority in numbers. Many are intent on exploiting their neighbors solely for the purpose of enjoying more fully and on a larger scale the goods of this world. But they err grievously who have turned to the acquisition of material and temporal possessions and are forgetful of eternal and spiritual things, to the possession of which Jesus, Our Redeemer, by means of the Church, His living interpreter, calls mankind.
22. It is in the very nature of material objects that an inordinate desire for them becomes the root of every evil, of every discord, and in particular, of a lowering of the moral sense. On the one hand, things which are naturally base and vile can never give rise to noble aspirations in the human heart which was created by and for God alone and is restless until it finds repose in Him. On the other hand, material goods (and in this they differ greatly from those of the spirit which the more of them we possess the more remain to be acquired) the more they are divided among men the less each one has and, by consequence, what one man has another cannot possibly possess unless it be forcibly taken away from the first. Such being the case, worldly possessions can never satisfy all in equal manner nor give rise to a spirit of universal contentment, but must become perforce a source of division among men and of vexation of spirit, as even the Wise Man Solomon experienced: "Vanity of vanities, and vexation of spirit." (Ecclesiastes i, 2, 14)
23. The same effects which result from these evils among individuals may likewise be expected among nations. "From whence are wars and contentions among you?" asks the Apostle St. James. "Are they not hence from your concupiscences, which war in your members?" (James iv, 1, 2)
24. The inordinate desire for pleasure, concupiscence of the flesh, sows the fatal seeds of division not only among families but likewise among states; the inordinate desire for possessions, concupiscence of the eyes, inevitably turns into class warfare and into social egotism; the inordinate desire to rule or to domineer over others, pride of life, soon becomes mere party or factional rivalries, manifesting itself in constant displays of conflicting ambitions and ending in open rebellion, in the crime of lese majeste, and even in national parricide.
25. These unsuppressed desires, this inordinate love of the things of the world, are precisely the source of all international misunderstandings and rivalries, despite the fact that oftentimes men dare to maintain that acts prompted by such motives are excusable and even justifiable because, forsooth, they were performed for reasons of state or of the public good, or out of love for country. Patriotism -- the stimulus of so many virtues and of so many noble acts of heroism when kept within the bounds of the law of Christ -- becomes merely an occasion, an added incentive to grave injustice when true love of country is debased to the condition of an extreme nationalism, when we forget that all men are our brothers and members of the same great human family, that other nations have an equal right with us both to life and to prosperity, that it is never lawful nor even wise, to dissociate morality from the affairs of practical life, that, in the last analysis, it is "justice which exalteth a nation: but sin maketh nations miserable." (Proverbs xiv, 34)
26. Perhaps the advantages to one's family, city, or nation obtained in some such way as this may well appear to be a wonderful and great victory (this thought has been already expressed by St. Augustine), but in the end it turns out to be a very shallow thing, something rather to inspire us with the most fearful apprehensions of approaching ruin. "It is a happiness which appears beautiful but is brittle as glass. We must ever be on guard lest with horror we see it broken into a thousand pieces at the first touch." (St. Augustine de Civitate Dei, Book iv, Chap. 3)
27. There is over and above the absence of peace and the evils attendant on this absence, another deeper and more profound cause for present-day conditions. This cause was even beginning to show its head before the War and the terrible calamities consequent on that cataclysm should have proven a remedy for them if mankind had only taken the trouble to understand the real meaning of those terrible events. In the Holy Scriptures we read: "They that have forsaken the Lord, shall be consumed." (Isaias i, 28) No less well known are the words of the Divine Teacher, Jesus Christ, Who said: "Without me you can do nothing" (John xv, 5) and again, "He that gathereth not with me, scattereth." (Luke xi, 23)
28. These words of the Holy Bible have been fulfilled and are now at this very moment being fulfilled before our very eyes. Because men have forsaken God and Jesus Christ, they have sunk to the depths of evil. They waste their energies and consume their time and efforts in vain sterile attempts to find a remedy for these ills, but without even being successful in saving what little remains from the existing ruin. It was a quite general desire that both our laws and our governments should exist without recognizing God or Jesus Christ, on the theory that all authority comes from men, not from God. Because of such an assumption, these theorists fell very short of being able to bestow upon law not only those sanctions which it must possess but also that secure basis for the supreme criterion of justice which even a pagan philosopher like Cicero saw clearly could not be derived except from the divine law. (Pope Pius XI, Ubi Arcano Dei Consilio, December 23, 1922.)
That last paragraph, number twenty-eight, says it it all. The gist of the two hundred thirty-seven articles linked at the top of this article can be summarized in the following words written by Pope Pius XI nearly eighty-eight years ago:
They waste their energies and consume their time and efforts in vain sterile attempts to find a remedy for these ills, but without even being successful in saving what little remains from the existing ruin. (Pope Pius XI, Ubi Arcano Dei Consilio, December 23, 1922.)
Looking ahead to the elections on Tuesday? Be my guest. Pardon me, however, if I serve the role of party pooper yet again. I mean, what's going to happen to me? Fewer people are going to read these articles? Fewer people will make non-tax-deductible financial gifts? I will get less invitations to appear on talk shows? No, I am simply going to remain steadfast in remind the very, very few people who do read these articles that no matter what happens on Tuesday, November 2, 2010, the Commemoration of All Souls, these words of Pope Pius XI are eternally true as it is impossible for the falsehoods of naturalism to do anything other than to worsen the situation of men and their nations:
Error divides. Catholicism unites.
Protestantism has divided into a welter of warring, contradictory sects, numbering well over thirty-three thousand. Its errors have influenced the development and progression of conciliarism, which has seen a situation arise where the divisions between formerly Catholic parishes are so pronounced that many "conservative" and traditionally-minded Catholics attached to the conciliar structures go to great lengths to avoid the "ultra-progressive" revolutionaries who believe in a different faith than they do. Catholicism is supposed to speak with one voice, una voce, as it is the voice of Christ the King, Who has but one voice. It is no accident that our nation and the world is seeing more overt manifestations of evil and error when the lords of conciliarism have made their own "reconciliation" with the principles of Modernity, starting with religious liberty and separation of Church and State.
Error divides. Catholicism unites.
We are fighting the forces of darkness that can be defeated only if we base our efforts in the temporal realm upon a firm, unshakable and uncompromising commitment to the Social Reign of Christ the King and a tender reliance upon her Most Holy Rosary and fidelity to her Fatima Message. Anyone who believes in political ecumenism, mixing false religious beliefs with the tenets of the true Faith or with Freemasonry and outright atheism, has no business speaking to Catholics about "solutions" to the social problems that have been caused, proximately speaking, by the overthrow of the Social Reign of Christ the King wrought by the Protestant Revolt and the rise of Judeo-Masonry.
How can any Catholic not take seriously these words of Saint Augustine, quoted by Pope Gregory XVI in Mirari Vos, August 15, 1832, concerning the fact that there must no place whatsoever for errors concerning First and Last Things in our lives?
This shameful font of indifferentism gives rise to that absurd and erroneous proposition which claims that liberty of conscience must be maintained for everyone. It spreads ruin in sacred and civil affairs, though some repeat over and over again with the greatest impudence that some advantage accrues to religion from it. "But the death of the soul is worse than freedom of error," as Augustine was wont to say. When all restraints are removed by which men are kept on the narrow path of truth, their nature, which is already inclined to evil, propels them to ruin. Then truly "the bottomless pit" is open from which John saw smoke ascending which obscured the sun, and out of which locusts flew forth to devastate the earth. Thence comes transformation of minds, corruption of youths, contempt of sacred things and holy laws -- in other words, a pestilence more deadly to the state than any other. Experience shows, even from earliest times, that cities renowned for wealth, dominion, and glory perished as a result of this single evil, namely immoderate freedom of opinion, license of free speech, and desire for novelty. (Pope Gregory XVI, Mirari Vos, Augsut 15, 1832.)
Error kills the soul. Catholicism makes it possible for one to save his immortal soul.
Pope Leo XIII, writing in Sapientiae Christianae, January 10, 1890, explained that there is a never a time when a Catholic can speak as a naturalist or as a political ecumenist. We must speak and think and act always as Catholics:
The chief elements of this duty consist in professing openly and unflinchingly the Catholic doctrine, and in propagating it to the utmost of our power. For, as is often said, with the greatest truth, there is nothing so hurtful to Christian wisdom as that it should not be known, since it possesses, when loyally received, inherent power to drive away error. (Pope Leo XIII, Sapientiae Christianae, January 10, 1890.)
We must be champions of Christ the King and Mary our Immaculate Queen, champions of the Catholic Church in this time of apostasy and betrayal, champions of the truth that Catholicism is the and only foundation of personal and social order. Those who disagree do so at the peril to the nation they say they love but for which they have a false sense of nationalistic pride that impedes her conversion to the true Faith, which is what Our Lord Himself mandates for each nation on the face of this earth.
May the Rosaries we pray each day help to bring about the restoration of the Church Militant on earth and the Social Reign of Christ the King in the world so that every heart, consecrated to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, will exclaim these stirring words that were uttered by Father Miguel Augustin Pro, S.J., when he was shot to death by the Masonic revolutionaries on November 23, 1927:

Taken From No Christ the King? No Rosary? No Good Cause
Remember the Futility of Naturalism
So few people understand that it is impossible for a nation to know true temporal prosperity when that which is opposed to the peace and happiness of eternity is promoted with utter impunity under cover of the civil law
Writing these articles has not won me many friends. As I have noted on any number of occasions, I was hated long before I came to recognize and accept the teaching of the Catholic Church that those who defect from her Received Teaching cannot hold ecclesiastical office within her ranks legitimately solely because I rejected naturalism in all of its diabolical forms, daring to point out that the men who founded the United States of America believed that they could provide a foundation for social order absent a due subordination to the Deposit of Faith that Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, for Whom many of the founders had a particular hatred and revulsion.
It is, of course, not fun to be hated and reviled, even by many in sedevacantist circles, for insisting that Catholicism and Catholicism alone is the sole foundation of personal and social order, and it is definitely not the path to career success or financial security to keep insisting on this truth. However, conscious of my sins and my need to make reparation for them as the consecrated slave of Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, I will never cease attempting to convince the very, very few people who read this website of the following truths:
1) Each of the problems of the world is caused by Original Sin and our own Actual Sins.
2) There is no way to remedy any problem in the world except by the reform of individual souls in cooperation with the graces won for us by the shedding of every single drop of Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ's Most Precious Blood on the wood of the Holy Cross, graces that flow into our hearts and souls through the loving hands of Our Lady, she who is the Mediatrix of All Graces.
3) Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ has entrusted the totality of His Deposit of Faith exclusively in the Catholic Church for their eternal safekeeping and infallible explication.
4) Therefore, my friends, although some who are outside the maternal bosom of the Catholic Church may have interesting things to say about the details of this or that manifestation of the overthrow of the Social Reign of Christ the King wrought by the Protestant Revolt and the rise of Judeo-Masonry, we do not look to Protestants or Mormons (see How Mormonism Built Glenn Beck and my own Pure, Unadulterated Americanism) or Jews or political ideologues of the false opposites of the naturalist "left" and the naturalist "right" for "explanations" as to why our we have the problems that face us today.
5) The Catholic Church teaches us that the civil state has a positive obligation before God to recognize her as the true religion and to undertake a pursuit of the common temporal good in light of man's Last End (the possession of the glory of the Beatific Vision of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost for all eternity in Heaven), which Last End the civil state has an obligation to aid:
That the State must be separated from the Church is a thesis absolutely false, a most pernicious error. Based, as it is, on the principle that the State must not recognize any religious cult, it is in the first place guilty of a great injustice to God; for the Creator of man is also the Founder of human societies, and preserves their existence as He preserves our own. We owe Him, therefore, not only a private cult, but a public and social worship to honor Him. Besides, this thesis is an obvious negation of the supernatural order. It limits the action of the State to the pursuit of public prosperity during this life only, which is but the proximate object of political societies; and it occupies itself in no fashion (on the plea that this is foreign to it) with their ultimate object which is man's eternal happiness after this short life shall have run its course. But as the present order of things is temporary and subordinated to the conquest of man's supreme and absolute welfare, it follows that the civil power must not only place no obstacle in the way of this conquest, but must aid us in effecting it. (Pope Saint Pius X, Vehementer Nos, February 11, 1906.)
6) Civil constitutions that do not recognize the authority of the Catholic Church to exercise the Social Reign of Christ the King after her hierarchy exhausts her Indirect Power of teaching and preaching and exhortation by interposing herself with officials of the civil government in grave circumstances when the good of souls demands her motherly intervention are defenseless against efforts to deconstruct its own words as statism increases over time. Why should anyone have respect for the words of mere men when the teaching authority instituted by the Divine Redeemer is not even acknowledged as binding upon all men in all nations at all times in all circumstances until the end of time?
7) Human beings are not self-redemptive (which is the essence of the heresy of semi-Pelagianism). We cannot build the 'better" world absent a complete submission to the truths of the Catholic Faith.
8) The devil raises up the false opposites of the naturalistic "left" to make their counterparts in naturalistic "right" seem better by comparison, blinding even believing Catholics to the truth that the naturalists of the "left" and of the "right" are as one in rejecting the necessity of Catholicism as the sole foundation of personal and social order, believing as one that men can build the "better" world on their own powers, indeed, that they can be "good" on their own powers without having belief in access to, or cooperation with Sanctifying Grace.
9) Catholics thus get lost in a sea of problems without ever realizing that there is no naturalistic, interdenominational, nondenominational, philosophical, ideological, legal or constitutional means to retard a single evil. Pope Pius IX and Pope Saint Pius X, among many others, taught us this very clearly that such can never be the case. Do you know better than they did as they reiterated the consistent teaching of the Catholic Church from which no one may dissent legitimately:
For you well know, venerable brethren, that at this time men are found not a few who, applying to civil society the impious and absurd principle of "naturalism," as they call it, dare to teach that "the best constitution of public society and (also) civil progress altogether require that human society be conducted and governed without regard being had to religion any more than if it did not exist; or, at least, without any distinction being made between the true religion and false ones." And, against the doctrine of Scripture, of the Church, and of the Holy Fathers, they do not hesitate to assert that "that is the best condition of civil society, in which no duty is recognized, as attached to the civil power, of restraining by enacted penalties, offenders against the Catholic religion, except so far as public peace may require." From which totally false idea of social government they do not fear to foster that erroneous opinion, most fatal in its effects on the Catholic Church and the salvation of souls, called by Our Predecessor, Gregory XVI, an "insanity," viz., that "liberty of conscience and worship is each man's personal right, which ought to be legally proclaimed and asserted in every rightly constituted society; and that a right resides in the citizens to an absolute liberty, which should be restrained by no authority whether ecclesiastical or civil, whereby they may be able openly and publicly to manifest and declare any of their ideas whatever, either by word of mouth, by the press, or in any other way." But, while they rashly affirm this, they do not think and consider that they are preaching "liberty of perdition;" and that "if human arguments are always allowed free room for discussion, there will never be wanting men who will dare to resist truth, and to trust in the flowing speech of human wisdom; whereas we know, from the very teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ, how carefully Christian faith and wisdom should avoid this most injurious babbling. (Pope Pius IX, Quanta Cura, December 8, 1864.)
Here we have, founded by Catholics, an inter-denominational association that is to work for the reform of civilization, an undertaking which is above all religious in character; for there is no true civilization without a moral civilization, and no true moral civilization without the true religion: it is a proven truth, a historical fact. The new Sillonists cannot pretend that they are merely working on “the ground of practical realities” where differences of belief do not matter. Their leader is so conscious of the influence which the convictions of the mind have upon the result of the action, that he invites them, whatever religion they may belong to, “to provide on the ground of practical realities, the proof of the excellence of their personal convictions.” And with good reason: indeed, all practical results reflect the nature of one’s religious convictions, just as the limbs of a man down to his finger-tips, owe their very shape to the principle of life that dwells in his body.
This being said, what must be thought of the promiscuity in which young Catholics will be caught up with heterodox and unbelieving folk in a work of this nature? Is it not a thousand-fold more dangerous for them than a neutral association? What are we to think of this appeal to all the heterodox, and to all the unbelievers, to prove the excellence of their convictions in the social sphere in a sort of apologetic contest? Has not this contest lasted for nineteen centuries in conditions less dangerous for the faith of Catholics? And was it not all to the credit of the Catholic Church? What are we to think of this respect for all errors, and of this strange invitation made by a Catholic to all the dissidents to strengthen their convictions through study so that they may have more and more abundant sources of fresh forces? What are we to think of an association in which all religions and even Free-Thought may express themselves openly and in complete freedom? For the Sillonists who, in public lectures and elsewhere, proudly proclaim their personal faith, certainly do not intend to silence others nor do they intend to prevent a Protestant from asserting his Protestantism, and the skeptic from affirming his skepticism. Finally, what are we to think of a Catholic who, on entering his study group, leaves his Catholicism outside the door so as not to alarm his comrades who, “dreaming of disinterested social action, are not inclined to make it serve the triumph of interests, coteries and even convictions whatever they may be”? Such is the profession of faith of the New Democratic Committee for Social Action which has taken over the main objective of the previous organization and which, they say, “breaking the double meaning which surround the Greater Sillon both in reactionary and anti-clerical circles”, is now open to all men “who respect moral and religious forces and who are convinced that no genuine social emancipation is possible without the leaven of generous idealism.” (Pope Saint Pius X, Notre Charge Apostolique, August 15, 1910.
10) No organization founded in naturalistic and/or inter-denominational principles and that eschews public honors given to Christ the King and to Our Lady of the Rosary is worthy of the support of any Catholic at any time for any reason. No Christ the King? No Rosary? No good cause to support, financially or otherwise. This is real, real simple:
From this it may clearly be seen what consequences are to be expected from that false pride which, rejecting our Saviour's Kingship, places man at the summit of all things and declares that human nature must rule supreme. And yet, this supreme rule can neither be attained nor even defined. The rule of Jesus Christ derives its form and its power from Divine Love: a holy and orderly charity is both its foundation and its crown. Its necessary consequences are the strict fulfilment of duty, respect of mutual rights, the estimation of the things of heaven above those of earth, the preference of the love of God to all things. But this supremacy of man, which openly rejects Christ, or at least ignores Him, is entirely founded upon selfishness, knowing neither charity nor selfdevotion. Man may indeed be king, through Jesus Christ: but only on condition that he first of all obey God, and diligently seek his rule of life in God's law. By the law of Christ we mean not only the natural precepts of morality and the Ancient Law, all of which Jesus Christ has perfected and crowned by His declaration, explanation and sanction; but also the rest of His doctrine and His own peculiar institutions. Of these the chief is His Church. Indeed whatsoever things Christ has instituted are most fully contained in His Church. Moreover, He willed to perpetuate the office assigned to Him by His Father by means of the ministry of the Church so gloriously founded by Himself. On the one hand He confided to her all the means of men's salvation, on the other He most solemnly commanded men to be subject to her and to obey her diligently, and to follow her even as Himself: "He that heareth you, heareth Me; and he that despiseth you, despiseth Me" (Luke x, 16). Wherefore the law of Christ must be sought in the Church. Christ is man's "Way"; the Church also is his "Way"-Christ of Himself and by His very nature, the Church by His commission and the communication of His power. Hence all who would find salvation apart from the Church, are led astray and strive in vain.
As with individuals, so with nations. These, too, must necessarily tend to ruin if they go astray from "The Way." The Son of God, the Creator and Redeemer of mankind, is King and Lord of the earth, and holds supreme dominion over men, both individually and collectively. "And He gave Him power, and glory, and a kingdom: and all peoples, tribes, and tongues shall serve Him" (Daniel vii., 14). "I am appointed King by Him . . . I will give Thee the Gentiles for Thy inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for Thy possession" (Psalm ii., 6, 8). Therefore the law of Christ ought to prevail in human society and be the guide and teacher of public as well as of private life. Since this is so by divine decree, and no man may with impunity contravene it, it is an evil thing for the common weal wherever Christianity does not hold the place that belongs to it. When Jesus Christ is absent, human reason fails, being bereft of its chief protection and light, and the very end is lost sight of, for which, under God's providence, human society has been built up. This end is the obtaining by the members of society of natural good through the aid of civil unity, though always in harmony with the perfect and eternal good which is above nature. But when men's minds are clouded, both rulers and ruled go astray, for they have no safe line to follow nor end to aim at. (Pope Leo XIII, Tametsi Futura Prospicientibus, November 1, 1900.)
The third evil for which a remedy is needed is one which is chiefly characteristic of the times in which we live. Men in former ages, although they loved the world, and loved it far too well, did not usually aggravate their sinful attachment to the things of earth by a contempt of the things of heaven. Even the right-thinking portion of the pagan world recognized that this life was not a home but a dwelling-place, not our destination, but a stage in the journey. But men of our day, albeit they have had the advantages of Christian instruction, pursue the false goods of this world in such wise that the thought of their true Fatherland of enduring happiness is not only set aside, but, to their shame be it said, banished and entirely erased from their memory, notwithstanding the warning of St. Paul, "We have not here a lasting city, but we seek one which is to come" (Heb. xiii., 4).
When We seek out the causes of this forgetfulness, We are met in the first place by the fact that many allow themselves to believe that the thought of a future life goes in some way to sap the love of our country, and thus militates against the prosperity of the commonwealth. No illusion could be more foolish or hateful. Our future hope is not of a kind which so monopolizes the minds of men as to withdraw their attention from the interests of this life. Christ commands us, it is true, to seek the Kingdom of God, and in the first place, but not in such a manner as to neglect all things else. For, the use of the goods of the present life, and the righteous enjoyment which they furnish, may serve both to strengthen virtue and to reward it. The splendor and beauty of our earthly habitation, by which human society is ennobled, may mirror the splendor and beauty of our dwelling which is above. Therein we see nothing that is not worthy of the reason of man and of the wisdom of God. For the same God who is the Author of Nature is the Author of Grace, and He willed not that one should collide or conflict with the other, but that they should act in friendly alliance, so that under the leadership of both we may the more easily arrive at that immortal happiness for which we mortal men were created.
But men of carnal mind, who love nothing but themselves, allow their thoughts to grovel upon things of earth until they are unable to lift them to that which is higher. For, far from using the goods of time as a help towards securing those which are eternal, they lose sight altogether of the world which is to come, and sink to the lowest depths of degradation. We may doubt if God could inflict upon man a more terrible punishment than to allow him to waste his whole life in the pursuit of earthly pleasures, and in forgetfulness of the happiness which alone lasts for ever.
It is from this danger that they will be happily rescued, who, in the pious practice of the Rosary, are wont, by frequent and fervent prayer, to keep before their minds the glorious mysteries. These mysteries are the means by which in the soul of a Christian a most clear light is shed upon the good things, hidden to sense, but visible to faith, "which God has prepared for those who love Him." From them we learn that death is not an annihilation which ends all things, but merely a migration and passage from life to life. By them we are taught that the path to Heaven lies open to all men, and as we behold Christ ascending thither, we recall the sweet words of His promise, "I go to prepare a place for you." By them we are reminded that a time will come when "God will wipe away every tear from our eyes," and that "neither mourning, nor crying, nor sorrow, shall be any more," and that "We shall be always with the Lord," and "like to the Lord, for we shall see Him as He is," and "drink of the torrent of His delight," as "fellow-citizens of the saints," in the blessed companionship of our glorious Queen and Mother. Dwelling upon such a prospect, our hearts are kindled with desire, and we exclaim, in the words of a great saint, "How vile grows the earth when I look up to heaven!" Then, too, shall we feel the solace of the assurance "that which is at present momentary and light of our tribulation worketh for us above measure exceedingly an eternal weight of glory" (2 Cor. iv., 17).
Here alone we discover the true relation between time and eternity, between our life on earth and our life in heaven; and it is thus alone that are formed strong and noble characters. When such characters can be counted in large numbers, the dignity and well-being of society are assured. All that is beautiful, good, and true will flourish in the measure of its conformity to Him who is of all beauty, goodness, and truth the first Principle and the Eternal Source.
These considerations will explain what We have already laid down concerning the fruitful advantages which are to be derived from the use of the Rosary, and the healing power which this devotion possesses for the evils of the age and the fatal sores of society. These advantages, as we may readily conceive, will be secured in a higher and fuller measure by those who band themselves together in the sacred Confraternity of the Rosary, and who are thus more than others united by a special and brotherly bond of devotion to the Most Holy Virgin. In this Confraternity, approved by the Roman Pontiffs, and enriched by them with indulgences and privileges, they possess their own rule and government, hold their meetings at stated times, and are provided with ample means of leading a holy life and of laboring for the good of the community. They are, are so to speak, the battalions who fight the battle of Christ, armed with His Sacred Mysteries, and under the banner and guidance of the Heavenly Queen. How faithfully her intercession is exercised in response to their prayers, processions, and solemnities is written in the whole experience of the Church not less than in the splendor of the victory of Lepanto. (Pope Leo XIII, Laetitiae Sanctae, September 8, 1893.)
11) Let me reiterate the point just made: No Christ the King? No Rosary? No good cause worthy of the support of Catholics, financially or otherwise. It is that simple.
Barack Hussein Obama, ladies and gentlemen, is not the problem facing the country or the world today. He is but a consequence and a symbol of a world built on the false, naturalistic, religiously indifferentist, anti-Incarnational and semi-Pelagian principles of Modernity. As I have demonstrated time and again on this site, especially most recently in Figures of Antichrist Applauding Each Other, there is a kindred spirit that unites the likes of Caesar Obamus and Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI and his conciliar minions in the counterfeit church of conciliarism. The ascendancy of the likes of Barack Hussein Obama and his fellow Marxists and admirers of Mao Zedong is indeed very much attributable also, therefore, to the fact that apostasy does indeed have consequences.
One of the most supreme ironies facing us today is that there are traditionally-minded Catholics all across and up and down the vast expanse of the ecclesiastical divide who have the exact Americanist spirit of naturalism that possesses the Modernist mind and heart of Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI. Political ecumenism is as wrong as theological ecumenism. Both lead to a deterioration in the lives of souls and thus of the world.
Catholicism is the sole foundation of personal and social order. Nothing else. Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI does not believe this, and so many traditionally-minded Catholics all across and up and down the vast expanse of the ecclesiastical divide don't believe this themselves, being joined at the hip, whether or not they realize it, with Ratzinger/Benedict and his Modernist view of religious liberty and Church-State relations.
Many who read this site have very selective memories. They do not realize that I, a former political activist who ran for lieutenant governor of New York and for the Right to Life Party nomination for the United States and as a surrogate speaker for Patrick Joseph Buchanan in 1995 and 1996, had to dispense with my own Americanist predilections, especially when two scholars challenged me quite publicly in the mid-1980s to read the papal encyclical letters on the Church's authentic Social Teaching, which do indeed bind our consciences.
I tried my hand at political ecumenism, being yelled at by a rabid Mormon eleven years ago now [in 1999] at the Constitution Party convention during the middle of an address in which I invited one and all to convert to the true Faith and to become champions of the Social Reign of Christ the King and Mary our Immaculate Queen. Time and experience have permitted this hardened sinner to respond to the graces that Our Lady has been sending me to recognize that it is indeed the case that nothing short of Catholicism is good enough for her Divine Son, He Who is the King of all men and of all nations, which is why I withdrew from all partisan political activity shortly after that Constitution Party convention eleven years ago to focus exclusively on the writing of these articles and the giving of lectures on the necessity to work for the Catholicization of our land as true patriotism wills the good of one's country, the ultimate expression of which is her Catholicization in all of her aspects without any exception whatsoever.
Don't take my word for this. Listen to our true popes:
Now, if the natural law enjoins us to love devotedly and to defend the country in which we had birth, and in which we were brought up, so that every good citizen hesitates not to face death for his native land, very much more is it the urgent duty of Christians to be ever quickened by like feelings toward the Church. For the Church is the holy City of the living God, born of God Himself, and by Him built up and established. Upon this earth, indeed, she accomplishes her pilgrimage, but by instructing and guiding men she summons them to eternal happiness. We are bound, then, to love dearly the country whence we have received the means of enjoyment this mortal life affords, but we have a much more urgent obligation to love, with ardent love, the Church to which we owe the life of the soul, a life that will endure forever. For fitting it is to prefer the good of the soul to the well-being of the body, inasmuch as duties toward God are of a far more hallowed character than those toward men.
Moreover, if we would judge aright, the supernatural love for the Church and the natural love of our own country proceed from the same eternal principle, since God Himself is their Author and originating Cause. Consequently, it follows that between the duties they respectively enjoin, neither can come into collision with the other. We can, certainly, and should love ourselves, bear ourselves kindly toward our fellow men, nourish affection for the State and the governing powers; but at the same time we can and must cherish toward the Church a feeling of filial piety, and love God with the deepest love of which we are capable. The order of precedence of these duties is, however, at times, either under stress of public calamities, or through the perverse will of men, inverted. For, instances occur where the State seems to require from men as subjects one thing, and religion, from men as Christians, quite another; and this in reality without any other ground, than that the rulers of the State either hold the sacred power of the Church of no account, or endeavor to subject it to their own will. Hence arises a conflict, and an occasion, through such conflict, of virtue being put to the proof. The two powers are confronted and urge their behests in a contrary sense; to obey both is wholly impossible. No man can serve two masters, for to please the one amounts to contemning the other.
As to which should be preferred no one ought to balance for an instant. It is a high crime indeed to withdraw allegiance from God in order to please men, an act of consummate wickedness to break the laws of Jesus Christ, in order to yield obedience to earthly rulers, or, under pretext of keeping the civil law, to ignore the rights of the Church; "we ought to obey God rather than men." This answer, which of old Peter and the other Apostles were used to give the civil authorities who enjoined unrighteous things, we must, in like circumstances, give always and without hesitation. No better citizen is there, whether in time of peace or war, than the Christian who is mindful of his duty; but such a one should be ready to suffer all things, even death itself, rather than abandon the cause of God or of the Church. (Pope Leo XIII, Sapientiae Christianae, January 10, 1890.)
This, nevertheless, is what they want to do with human society; they dream of changing its natural and traditional foundations; they dream of a Future City built on different principles, and they dare to proclaim these more fruitful and more beneficial than the principles upon which the present Christian City rests
No, Venerable Brethren, We must repeat with the utmost energy in these times of social and intellectual anarchy when everyone takes it upon himself to teach as a teacher and lawmaker - the City cannot be built otherwise than as God has built it; society cannot be setup unless the Church lays the foundations and supervises the work; no, civilization is not something yet to be found, nor is the New City to be built on hazy notions; it has been in existence and still is: it is Christian civilization, it is the Catholic City. It has only to be set up and restored continually against the unremitting attacks of insane dreamers, rebels and miscreants. omnia instaurare in Christo. (Pope Saint Pius X, Notre Charge Apostolique, August 15, 1910.)
Care to disagree?
People are free to waste their time on the fraud that is partisan politics, which raises up one naturalist devil to make other naturalist devils look "better" by comparison even though, as noted before, they believe in the same false and thus diabolical premises of Modernity, and to give their time and money to organizations that trumpet their interdenominational or nondenominational basis. I, for one, will keep insisting, especially as I have in this this week leading up to the Feast of Christ the King this Sunday, October 31, 2010, on the simple that Catholicism--and nothing else, that's right, no "short cut" of any kind, is the sole foundation of personal and social order.
Error--and/or our blithe and conscious association with it--can never be the foundation of any kind of order. Anyone who believes otherwise is insane or sadly deluded, steeped in emotionalism as they surrender all rationality and as they surrender their sensus Catholicus to illusions of "fighting evil" that actually wind up institutionalizing more evils over the course of time.
Many people, of course, hate me for stating this, which is one of the reasons this site has so few readers and why it is has so little financial support. Too bad. Our Lady wants us, yes, even terrible sinners such as me, to be champions of the Social Reign of Christ the King, something that Pope Pius XI made clear in Quas Primas, December 11, 1925:
If We ordain that the whole Catholic world shall revere Christ as King, We shall minister to the need of the present day, and at the same time provide an excellent remedy for the plague which now infects society. We refer to the plague of anti-clericalism, its errors and impious activities. This evil spirit, as you are well aware, Venerable Brethren, has not come into being in one day; it has long lurked beneath the surface. The empire of Christ over all nations was rejected. The right which the Church has from Christ himself, to teach mankind, to make laws, to govern peoples in all that pertains to their eternal salvation, that right was denied. Then gradually the religion of Christ came to be likened to false religions and to be placed ignominiously on the same level with them. It was then put under the power of the state and tolerated more or less at the whim of princes and rulers. Some men went even further, and wished to set up in the place of God's religion a natural religion consisting in some instinctive affection of the heart. There were even some nations who thought they could dispense with God, and that their religion should consist in impiety and the neglect of God. The rebellion of individuals and states against the authority of Christ has produced deplorable consequences. We lamented these in the Encyclical Ubi arcano; we lament them today: the seeds of discord sown far and wide; those bitter enmities and rivalries between nations, which still hinder so much the cause of peace; that insatiable greed which is so often hidden under a pretense of public spirit and patriotism, and gives rise to so many private quarrels; a blind and immoderate selfishness, making men seek nothing but their own comfort and advantage, and measure everything by these; no peace in the home, because men have forgotten or neglect their duty; the unity and stability of the family undermined; society in a word, shaken to its foundations and on the way to ruin. We firmly hope, however, that the feast of the Kingship of Christ, which in future will be yearly observed, may hasten the return of society to our loving Savior. It would be the duty of Catholics to do all they can to bring about this happy result. Many of these, however, have neither the station in society nor the authority which should belong to those who bear the torch of truth. This state of things may perhaps be attributed to a certain slowness and timidity in good people, who are reluctant to engage in conflict or oppose but a weak resistance; thus the enemies of the Church become bolder in their attacks. But if the faithful were generally to understand that it behooves them ever to fight courageously under the banner of Christ their King, then, fired with apostolic zeal, they would strive to win over to their Lord those hearts that are bitter and estranged from him, and would valiantly defend his rights.
Moreover, the annual and universal celebration of the feast of the Kingship of Christ will draw attention to the evils which anticlericalism has brought upon society in drawing men away from Christ, and will also do much to remedy them. While nations insult the beloved name of our Redeemer by suppressing all mention of it in their conferences and parliaments, we must all the more loudly proclaim his kingly dignity and power, all the more universally affirm his rights.
There are those who contend that praying the Rosary is "doing nothing" to help our country, that "action" is needed. Such a contention is at the essence of Americanism, that prayer (called part of the "passive virtues" by the Americanists) is somehow opposed to the American mania for activity, for action (part of what the Americanists call the "active virtues:). Pope Leo XIII dispensed with this sophistry in Testem Benevolentiae Nostrae, January 22, 1899:
A thorough consideration of this point, in the supposition that no exterior guide is granted such souls, will make us see the difficulty of locating or determining the direction and application of that more abundant influx of the Holy Spirit so greatly extolled by innovators To practice virtue there is absolute need of the assistance of the Holy Spirit, yet we find those who are fond of novelty giving an unwarranted importance to the natural virtues, as though they better responded to the customs and necessities of the times and that having these as his outfit man becomes more ready to act and more strenuous in action. It is not easy to understand how persons possessed of Christian wisdom can either prefer natural to supernatural virtues or attribute to them a greater efficacy and fruitfulness. Can it be that nature conjoined with grace is weaker than when left to herself?
Can it be that those men illustrious for sanctity, whom the Church distinguishes and openly pays homage to, were deficient, came short in the order of nature and its endowments, because they excelled in Christian strength? And although it be allowed at times to wonder at acts worthy of admiration which are the outcome of natural virtue-is there anyone at all endowed simply with an outfit of natural virtue? Is there any one not tried by mental anxiety, and this in no light degree? Yet ever to master such, as also to preserve in its entirety the law of the natural order, requires an assistance from on high These single notable acts to which we have alluded will frequently upon a closer investigation be found to exhibit the appearance rather than the reality of virtue. Grant that it is virtue, unless we would "run in vain" and be unmindful of that eternal bliss which a good God in his mercy has destined for us, of what avail are natural virtues unless seconded by the gift of divine grace? Hence St. Augustine well says: "Wonderful is the strength, and swift the course, but outside the true path." For as the nature of man, owing to the primal fault, is inclined to evil and dishonor, yet by the help of grace is raised up, is borne along with a new greatness and strength, so, too, virtue, which is not the product of nature alone, but of grace also, is made fruitful unto everlasting life and takes on a more strong and abiding character.
This overesteem of natural virtue finds a method of expression in assuming to divide all virtues in active and passive, and it is alleged that whereas passive virtues found better place in past times, our age is to be characterized by the active. That such a division and distinction cannot be maintained is patent-for there is not, nor can there be, merely passive virtue. "Virtue," says St. Thomas Aquinas, "designates the perfection of some faculty, but end of such faculty is an act, and an act of virtue is naught else than the good use of free will," acting, that is to say, under the grace of God if the act be one of supernatural virtue.
He alone could wish that some Christian virtues be adapted to certain times and different ones for other times who is unmindful of the apostle's words: "That those whom He foreknew, He predestined to be made conformable to the image of His Son."- Romans viii, 29. Christ is the teacher and the exemplar of all sanctity, and to His standard must all those conform who wish for eternal life. Nor does Christ know any change as the ages pass, "for He is yesterday and to-day and the same forever."-Hebrews xiii, 8. To the men of all ages was the precept given: "Learn of Me, because I am meek and humble of heart."-Matt. xi, 29.
Praying the Rosary and attempting to fulfill Our Lady's Fatima Message in our own lives as we make reparation for our own sins and those of the whole world that have brought us the Chastisement that we are experiencing at the hands of the lords of Modernity in the world and of Modernism in the counterfeit church of conciliarism is doing what Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ specifically requested us to do when He sent His Blessed Mother to the Cova da Iria near Fatima, Portugal, ninety-three years ago. And no one, including any member of the John Birch Society, whether Catholic or non-Catholic, who disparages the necessity of praying the Rosary and who believes in the lie of political ecumenism is a friend of either Christ the King or Mary our Immaculate Queen.
Naturalists of the "left" believe in the power of the civil state to provide social order according to the "insights" of their statist ideologies. They also believe in various international organizations as the means to provide "peace" as the legitimate sovereignty of nations is surrendered on a piecemeal basis over the course of time. These are fundamental errors that come from the devil, who seeks to convince men that they are self-redemptive. And these are the same diabolical errors that lead naturalists on the "right" to convince themselves--and to attempt to convince even baptized Catholics--that their form of naturalism, which is no less from the devil in that it denies the Sacred Rights of the Social Reign of Christ the King and the public honor due His Most Blessed Mother, is going to retard the "leftist" brand of naturalism.
Pope Pius XI explained the futility of purely human organizations to "resolve" the problems of the day:
No merely human institution of today can be as successful in devising a set of international laws which will be in harmony with world conditions as the Middle Ages were in the possession of that true League of Nations, Christianity. It cannot be denied that in the Middle Ages this law was often violated; still it always existed as an ideal, according to which one might judge the acts of nations, and a beacon light calling those who had lost their way back to the safe road.
There exists an institution able to safeguard the sanctity of the law of nations. This institution is a part of every nation; at the same time it is above all nations. She enjoys, too, the highest authority, the fullness of the teaching power of the Apostles. Such an institution is the Church of Christ. She alone is adapted to do this great work, for she is not only divinely commissioned to lead mankind, but moreover, because of her very make-up and the constitution which she possesses, by reason of her age-old traditions and her great prestige, which has not been lessened but has been greatly increased since the close of the War, cannot but succeed in such a venture where others assuredly will fail. (Pope Pius XI, Ubi Arcano Dei Consilio, December 23, 1922.)
One of the supreme ironies of the day is that Americanist Catholics who subscribe to the fund-raising mania of various naturalistic organizations in the hope of retarding evils that keep growing despite all of the money and time and effort spent by these organizations to do so are joined at the hip with Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict in rejecting Pope Pius XI's simple reiteration of Catholic truth.
Indeed, it is absurdity even on the natural level to believe in the "ability' of naturalistic organizations to retarded evils as the evils for which some of these naturalistic organizations of the "right" were formed to combat (Communism, the United Nations, globalism) are more powerful than ever. All that wasted time and money and effort. For what? For what? To pad the coffers of naturalistic organizations, that's what, as well-meaning Catholics continue to roll figurative boulders up hills much in the manner of Sisyphus (see A World of Sisyphuses and It's Still a World of Sisyphuses).
