Hypocrisy and Vapidity Abound From Antichrist's Minions
One of the many ways that the adversary has used the genocide of the preborn is to inspire people who are bereft of any true supernatural understanding of events in the world to commit heinous acts of wanton murder in the belief that they are going to “end” this genocide with moral crimes of their own. The devil thus uses legitimate outrage over the moral crimes committed by the ghoulish baby-killers who ply their bloody trade under cover of the civil law to engender sympathy for them whenever someone like Robert Lewis Dear, a purveyor of pornography and other vices, decides to play God and exact “justice” in a world filled with injustice.
Robert Lewis Dear is a murderer who has thus become a poster boy to generate sympathy for “Planned Parenthood,” which is one of the chief instruments that the devil has used to kill off innocent human beings and to enslave the souls of their mothers in the ravages of sin and guilty consciences, many of which will be assuaged by hallucinogenic drugs or alcohol or both.
As is ever the case in tragedies of this sort, no matter how very few in number they have been in the past forty-two years, nine months since the decisions of the Supreme Court of the United States of America in the cases of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, January 22, 1973, various of the organized crime family of the naturalist “left” have issued statements of sanctimonious support for the merchants of death of “Planned Parenthood” in the aftermath of Richard Lewis Dear’s tragic killing spree:
After a gunman attacked a Planned Parenthood facility in Colorado Springs on Friday, killing three people and injuring at least nine more, Democratic presidential candidates issued swift responses to the violence.
Hillary Clinton, the first 2016 contender to publicly address the shooting, reiterated her support for Planned Parenthood on Friday.
Today and every day, we #StandWithPP. https://t.co/oifqTQLx1X
— Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) November 27, 2015
On Saturday, former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley sent out his own message of support for the Colorado Springs victims and Planned Parenthood:
My thoughts and prayers are with those in Colorado. #StandWithPP
— Martin O'Malley (@MartinOMalley) November 28, 2015
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders also tweeted his support for the organization and for the police officers who responded. He later took it a step further, cautioning against "bitter rhetoric" in the anti-abortion rights debates surrounding Planned Parenthood.
We proudly #StandWithPP of Colorado Springs and the brave law enforcement personnel who fought to protect it.
— Bernie Sanders (@BernieSanders) November 28, 2015
I strongly support Planned Parenthood and its work and hope people realize that bitter rhetoric can have unintended consequences.
— Bernie Sanders (@SenSanders) November 28, 2015
The women's health organization has featured prominently as a target of the anti-abortion movement in recent months. Congressional conservatives made several attempts to defund Planned Parenthood earlier this year after undercover videos sparked outrage over the clinic's health care practices. In September, at the height of Republican discontent over the organization, the FBI even issued a nationwide bulletin to law enforcement agencies warning of the possibility of "lone offenders" attacking facilities.
In a longer statement, Sanders acknowledged that "we still do not know the shooter's motive" for the attack on the facility but added that "Planned Parenthood has been the subject of vicious and unsubstantiated statements attacking an organization that provides critical health care for millions of Americans."
In the wake of the shooting, Planned Parenthood Rocky Mountain, which runs the Colorado Springs clinic, echoed similar sentiments. In a statement Friday, the group said "we share the concerns of many Americans that extremists are creating a poisonous environment that feeds domestic terrorism in this country."
The health care provider drew immediate criticism from at least one conservative, with Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Illinois, criticizing the organization's reaction as "very premature."
"We may find out this person was targeting Planned Parenthood," Kinzinger said Friday on CNN. "If we find out he was not targeting Planned Parenthood, I would fully expect an apology from the Planned Parenthood director for saying that."
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who led the charge in the Senate to strip Planned Parenthood of federal funds, was one of only few Republican hopefuls to publicly comment on the shooting:
Praying for the loved ones of those killed, those injured & first responders who bravely got the situation under control in Colorado Springs
— Ted Cruz (@tedcruz) November 28, 2015
Ohio Gov. John Kasich is the other GOP contender to discuss the attacks, offering his prayers for the affected families and saying "senseless violence has brought tragedy to Colorado Springs."
President Obama also responded to the shooting, calling for stronger gun control legislation.
"If we truly care about this -- if we're going to offer up our thoughts and prayers again, for God knows how many times, with a truly clean conscience -- then we have to do something about the easy accessibility of weapons of war on our streets to people who have no business wielding them," the president said in a statement issued by the White House on Saturday.
"This is not normal," he added. "We can't let it become normal.” (Presidential Candidates React to Robert Lewis Dear Attacks.)
No, Mister President, what Richard Lewis Dear is accused of doing is not normal. Neither is the daily slaughter of the preborn by surgical means, which has taken upwards of fifty-eight million lives since the States of California and Colorado began to decriminalize the killing of the innocent preborn in their mothers’ wombs.
Pro-aborts such as Barack Hussein Obama/Barry Soetoro, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Bernard Sanders, Martin O’Malley, et al. are ever eager to use tragedies such as those that took the lives of police officer Garret Swasey and two other people on Friday, November 27, 2015, the Feast of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, as pretexts to increase their statist control over our daily lives and to wrap themselves up in the mantle of sanctimonious self-righteousness in defense of the slaughter of innocent babies, whose own “crime” has been to be conceived in their mothers’ wombs as the natural result of that which is morally licit only for married couples. Such statists believe that a baby is but a “fetus” whose mother can “choose” to have him executed, and they proudly champion these executions and the ghoulish business of trafficking their body parts for medical experimentation.
Barack Hussein Obama/Barry Soetoro, Hillary Rodham Cltion, Bernard Sanders, Martin O’Malley, et al. have never once criticized butchers such as Louis Gosnell, and they have actually supported Planned Barrenhood’s practices of harvesting the bodies of preborn children as they have condemned The Center for Medical Progress’s undercover videos that have provided graphic evidence of Margaret Sanger’s successors’ murderous business.
No one in the pro-life community, however, is justifying the actions of Richard Lewis Dear. This is just a little bit of a contrast, showing yet again the unwillingness of anyone in the false opposite of the naturalist “left” to condemn anything any baby-killer or any act of baby-killing at any time for any reason whatsoever. They do indeed stand in solidarity with the merchants of death at Planned Barrenhood.
Quite unlike the hypocrisy on the “left,” however, pro-life Americans have condemned Richard Lewis Dear’s actions, noting that we only have the word of unnamed sources thus far that this tool of the devil actually said “No more baby parts!” as he was being arrested.
Michael Daleiden, the founder of The Center for Medical Progress was unequivocal in his denunciations of Richard Lewis Dear’s killing spree in Colorado Springs at an American killing center, a facility that is no kind of “health clinic” nor should be referred to as such by anyone who considers himself to be a friend of Christ the King:
David Daleiden of The Center for Medical Progress, the producer of the recent series of undercover videos exposing Planned Parenthood's practice of selling the body parts of aborted babies, said “The Center for Medical Progress does not support vigilante violence against abortion providers. There are people at Planned Parenthood who I still consider friends and my thoughts and prayers are with them at this time for no one to be injured.”
Daleiden said that the Planned Parenthood facility where Friday's shooting took place was not involved in CMP's undercover investigation. “We only visited the Denver clinic in Colorado," he said. "PPRM CEO Vicki Cowart says Planned Parenthood still doesn’t know the full details of what is going on in Colorado Springs.” (Pro-Life leaders condemn Robert Lewis Dear shootings.)
Yes, those who condemn the killing of the innocent preborn, whether by chemical or surgical means, are among the first to condemn the killings, no matter how few in number they have been in the past fifty years, of those involved in the bloody business of killing babies and/or of police officers who are killed in the line of duty while seeking to stop a killer such as Robert Lewis Dear. Those who love the true God of Divine Revelation, the Most Blessed Trinity, as He has revealed Himself to us through His Catholic Church, seek the conversion, not the death, of those who support and/or commit great crimes in violation of the binding precepts of the Divine Positive Law and the Natural Law, and it is to this end that we offer prayers of reparation for such crimes as we pray fervently for the merchants of death. No one who loves God justifies any act of wanton murder no matter the rationale.
By contrast, though, Barack Hussein Obama/Barry Soetoro justifies as “understandable” wanton acts of violence upon innocent human beings and the destruction of private property that has occurred in such places as Ferguson, Missouri, and Baltimore, Maryland, after the deaths of black men being arrested on suspicion of having committed—or in the process of committing—a crime. He has exploited such regrettable circumstances to fan the flames of racial hostility, and Missouri Governor Jay Nixon, a Democrat, actually ordered the National Guard to stay of Ferguson, Missouri, on November 24, 2014, the Feast of Saint John of the Cross and the Commemoration of Saint Chrysogonus, after having spoken to Obama/Soetoro and his own version of Karl Rove, the race-baiting Valerie Jarrett, as Ferguson burned (see Governor Ordered National Guard to Stand Down in Ferguson.)
Similarly, the Mayor of the City of Baltimore, Maryland, Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, made the following remarkable statement after rioters were given free rein to loot, pillage, burn and destroy parts of the historic city, which was pretty crime-ridden when I first visited there in 1956, after the death of Freddie Gray that has resulted in the indictment of six City of Baltimore police officers:
“I made it very clear that I work with the police and instructed them to do everything that they could to make sure that the protesters were able to exercise their right to free speech,” Rawlings-Blake said. “It’s a very delicate balancing act. Because while we try to make sure that they were protected from the cars and other things that were going on, we also gave those who wished to destroy space to do that as well. And we worked very hard to keep that balance and to put ourselves in the best position to de-escalate.” (Baltimore Mayor Gives Protestors 'Who Wish to Destroy Space to do that.)
Space to destroy?
What a country.
Yes, there is always some kind of underlying “rationale” for partisans of the false opposite of the naturalist “left” to employ to justify or minimize acts of violence committed by those who are the beneficiaries of their governmental largesse. Those who condemn rioters for their acts of violence upon people and their destruction of property must be denounced as “racists” who are “insensitive” to the “suffering” of whichever group is said to be aggrieved, whether legitimately or illegitimately.
White House spokesflack Josh Earnest said on Monday, November 9, 2015, the Feast of the Dedication of the Basilica of Saint John Lateran, that Barack Hussein Obama/Barry Soetoro supported the efforts of campus bullies at the University of Missouri to force the resignation of university president Tom Wolfe because of a supposed “culture of racism” at that institution:
White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest praised the group of protesters for rallying together and demanding change, pointing out that Obama’s first presidential campaign was embodied by the same spirit.
“I think this also illustrates something that the president talked a lot about in the context of – in his campaign, that a few people speaking up and speaking out can have a profound impact on the communities where we live and work,” he said during the daily press briefing today.
The group of students accused Wolfe of enabling “a culture of racism” on campus and ignoring student concerns about recent events. Wolfe resigned after members of the college football team joined the protests, saying they wouldn’t suit up for the next game.
“That’s the kind of dialogue and work and unity that the Mizzou community is going to need to make progress on this issue,” Earnest said, in reaction to the decision calling it “a testament to the courage of the people on campus.”
He said that President Obama himself was unlikely to make a public statement about the events on campus, but didn’t rule it out sometime in the future. Earnest reminded reporters that he grew up in Missouri and shared his own thoughts on the situation.
“I think any state institution is a product of the state and that state’s history and there’s a very painful history – and it’s not ancient history in the state of Missouri,” Earnest said.
The list of demands by the protesters included that Wolfe “acknowledge his white male privilege” and hire more black college faculty members. (White House Praises Protestors Forcing University of Missouri President to step down.)
Although the subject of fascism on college campuses will be the subject of an article at some point in the next few weeks as I am in the process of recovering from hernia repair surgery that is being done today, suffice it for the moment to note that I know from first-hand experience the sting of the though police, whether over my refusal to equivocate on the inviolability of innocent human life or over references to the truths of the Holy Faith in class lectures, even as late as the Fall of 2014 during my short-lived return to college teaching. Nothing is ever settled for the “left” unless it is “settled” on their terms. The very people who claim to be in favor of “academic freedom” and “tolerance” are the most fascistic, intolerant people on the face of the earth.
Only those on the “left” have any reason to express outrage to the point of condoning violence on the part of others.
No believing Catholic is entitled to have or to express any outrage over the daily slaughter of the innocent preborn, whether by chemical or surgical means, as to do so would be to incite the likes of Richard Lewis Dear.
Utter hypocrisy and duplicity.
Far more numerous are riots by disgruntled minority groups and professional agitators of the “left” than acts of violence on the part of those who oppose the moral evils of the day that are protected under cover of the civil law and celebrate all throughout what passes for popular culture.
Robert Lewis Dear acted on his own. His lone act is a heinous criminal act, not “terrorism” as it was termed by Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper, showing once again the hypocrisy of the “left,” who can never admit that believing faithful Mohammedans engage in terrorism or that Mohammedanism is a false religion that is steeped in hatred for and violence against “infidels,” who love to tar those who oppose abortion and sodomy with a very big brush while refusing to draw any kind of inferences when someone with a Mohammedan name kills a police officer or engages in violence on a college campus. Those are said to be “isolated criminal actions.”
Indeed, as we know so very well, the “left” loves to tar those who oppose the American genocide of the innocent preborn as guilty of creating the conditions that breed men such as Robert Lewis Dear. No distinctions are ever made as the “left” believes that any kind of opposition to baby-killing is “violent” in se and part of the “right’s” mythical “war on women.” All pro-life Americans are deemed to be “terrorists” in our world that has gone mad directly as a result of the Protestant Revolution’s overthrow of the Social Reign of Christ the King that has been institutionalized as a result of the various interrelated forces of Judeo-Masonic naturalism, forces with which Jorge Mario Bergoglio, who equates fully believing Catholics with Mohammedans who target Christians all across the globe as “fundamentalists,” and his false religious sect have made their “official” reconciliation.
For his part, Jorge Mario Bergoglio has not even acknowledged the Mohammedan terrorism that took place at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, California, on Wednesday, December 2, 2015, the Feast of Saint Bibiana, no less asked for prayers for those killed and for the recovery of the survivors. This graduate of the Acme School of Theology that is headed by Wile E. Coyote lives in the same kind of delusional alternate universe as do Barack Hussein Obama/Barry Soetoro and his enablers in the false opposite of the naturalist “left,” a universe where only believing Catholics are “dangerous,” not Mohammedans, a world where “climate change,” not sin, is the most pressing problem facing the world. Such men must demonize those who understand that the world is in freefall because men do not live as befits redeemed creatures who attempt, despite their own sins and failings, to live in accord with the binding percepts of the Divine Positive Law and the Natural Law as entrusted to and explicated by the infallible teaching authority of the oy true church on the face of the earth, the Catholic Church.
We are living in the time of Antichrist, a time when everything is truly anti-Christ.
The very Holy Name of Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ might be eradicated from our speech and our writing.
All visible signs of Christianity must be taken down in order not to offend those, especially Talmudists and Mohammedans, who deny the Sacred Divinity of Our Lord.
America’s concentration camps (public schools, many conciliar schools, almost every college and university) have produced an increasing number of atheists, especially among the so-called “Millennial Generation” (those born between 1981 and 1997), demonstrating once again the prophetic wisdom of Pope Leo XIII when he wrote the following in Immortale Dei, November 1, 1885:
31. The sovereignty of the people, however, and this without any reference to God, is held to reside in the multitude; which is doubtless a doctrine exceedingly well calculated to flatter and to inflame many passions, but which lacks all reasonable proof, and all power of insuring public safety and preserving order. Indeed, from the prevalence of this teaching, things have come to such a pass that may hold as an axiom of civil jurisprudence that seditions may be rightfully fostered. For the opinion prevails that princes are nothing more than delegates chosen to carry out the will of the people; whence it necessarily follows that all things are as changeable as the will of the people, so that risk of public disturbance is ever hanging over our heads.
To hold, therefore, that there is no difference in matters of religion between forms that are unlike each other, and even contrary to each other, most clearly leads in the end to the rejection of all religion in both theory and practice. And this is the same thing as atheism, however it may differ from it in name. Men who really believe in the existence of God must, in order to be consistent with themselves and to avoid absurd conclusions, understand that differing modes of divine worship involving dissimilarity and conflict even on most important points cannot all be equally probable, equally good, and equally acceptable to God. (Pope Leo XIII, Immortale Dei, November 1, 1885.)
Men today do not act as Christians, as brothers, but as strangers, and even enemies. The sense of man's personal dignity and of the value of human life has been lost in the brutal domination begotten of might and mere superiority in numbers. Many are intent on exploiting their neighbors solely for the purpose of enjoying more fully and on a larger scale the goods of this world. But they err grievously who have turned to the acquisition of material and temporal possessions and are forgetful of eternal and spiritual things, to the possession of which Jesus, Our Redeemer, by means of the Church, His living interpreter, calls mankind.
22. It is in the very nature of material objects that an inordinate desire for them becomes the root of every evil, of every discord, and in particular, of a lowering of the moral sense. On the one hand, things which are naturally base and vile can never give rise to noble aspirations in the human heart which was created by and for God alone and is restless until it finds repose in Him. On the other hand, material goods (and in this they differ greatly from those of the spirit which the more of them we possess the more remain to be acquired) the more they are divided among men the less each one has and, by consequence, what one man has another cannot possibly possess unless it be forcibly taken away from the first. Such being the case, worldly possessions can never satisfy all in equal manner nor give rise to a spirit of universal contentment, but must become perforce a source of division among men and of vexation of spirit, as even the Wise Man Solomon experienced: "Vanity of vanities, and vexation of spirit." (Ecclesiastes i, 2, 14)
23. The same effects which result from these evils among individuals may likewise be expected among nations. "From whence are wars and contentions among you?" asks the Apostle St. James. "Are they not hence from your concupiscences, which war in your members?" (James iv, 1, 2)
24. The inordinate desire for pleasure, concupiscence of the flesh, sows the fatal seeds of division not only among families but likewise among states; the inordinate desire for possessions, concupiscence of the eyes, inevitably turns into class warfare and into social egotism; the inordinate desire to rule or to domineer over others, pride of life, soon becomes mere party or factional rivalries, manifesting itself in constant displays of conflicting ambitions and ending in open rebellion, in the crime of lese majeste, and even in national parricide.
25. These unsuppressed desires, this inordinate love of the things of the world, are precisely the source of all international misunderstandings and rivalries, despite the fact that oftentimes men dare to maintain that acts prompted by such motives are excusable and even justifiable because, forsooth, they were performed for reasons of state or of the public good, or out of love for country. Patriotism -- the stimulus of so many virtues and of so many noble acts of heroism when kept within the bounds of the law of Christ -- becomes merely an occasion, an added incentive to grave injustice when true love of country is debased to the condition of an extreme nationalism, when we forget that all men are our brothers and members of the same great human family, that other nations have an equal right with us both to life and to prosperity, that it is never lawful nor even wise, to dissociate morality from the affairs of practical life, that, in the last analysis, it is "justice which exalteth a nation: but sin maketh nations miserable." (Proverbs xiv, 34)
26. Perhaps the advantages to one's family, city, or nation obtained in some such way as this may well appear to be a wonderful and great victory (this thought has been already expressed by St. Augustine), but in the end it turns out to be a very shallow thing, something rather to inspire us with the most fearful apprehensions of approaching ruin. "It is a happiness which appears beautiful but is brittle as glass. We must ever be on guard lest with horror we see it broken into a thousand pieces at the first touch." (St. Augustine de Civitate Dei, Book iv, Chap. 3)
27. There is over and above the absence of peace and the evils attendant on this absence, another deeper and more profound cause for present-day conditions. This cause was even beginning to show its head before the War and the terrible calamities consequent on that cataclysm should have proven a remedy for them if mankind had only taken the trouble to understand the real meaning of those terrible events. In the Holy Scriptures we read: "They that have forsaken the Lord, shall be consumed." (Isaias i, 28) No less well known are the words of the Divine Teacher, Jesus Christ, Who said: "Without me you can do nothing" (John xv, 5) and again, "He that gathereth not with me, scattereth." (Luke xi, 23)
28. These words of the Holy Bible have been fulfilled and are now at this very moment being fulfilled before our very eyes. Because men have forsaken God and Jesus Christ, they have sunk to the depths of evil. They waste their energies and consume their time and efforts in vain sterile attempts to find a remedy for these ills, but without even being successful in saving what little remains from the existing ruin. It was a quite general desire that both our laws and our governments should exist without recognizing God or Jesus Christ, on the theory that all authority comes from men, not from God. Because of such an assumption, these theorists fell very short of being able to bestow upon law not only those sanctions which it must possess but also that secure basis for the supreme criterion of justice which even a pagan philosopher like Cicero saw clearly could not be derived except from the divine law. (Pope Pius XI, Ubi Arcano Dei Consilio, December 23, 1922.)
That last paragraph, number twenty-eight, says it it all. The gist of the two hundred thirty-seven articles linked at the top of this article can be summarized in the following words written by Pope Pius XI nearly eighty-eight years ago:
They waste their energies and consume their time and efforts in vain sterile attempts to find a remedy for these ills, but without even being successful in saving what little remains from the existing ruin. (Pope Pius XI, Ubi Arcano Dei Consilio, December 23, 1922.)
In a world that is not governed by the Social Reign of Christ the King, of course, our civil potentates, each of whom is a promoter of social evils under cover of the civil law, respond to various acts of violence in a duplicitous and disproportionate manner as they seek to castigate all those who oppose the moral evl of baby-killing with the likes of Robert Lewis Dear while "reserving judgment" about what motivated faithful, believing Mohammeans named Tashfeen Malik and her husband, Syed Rizwan Farook, to carefully plan their well-executed massacre at the Inland Regional Center four days ago now. Our potentates of the "left" and would-be "potenates" of the right are thus locked forever into an endless contest to win public support for a variety of terile attempts to find "remedies" for violent actions," which have as their remote cause Original Sin and as their proximate causes the the Actual Sins of
Yet it is the case that no amount of Barack Hussein Obama/Barry Soetoro's idiocy of “gun control," which would have done nothing to stop the bloodbaths caused by Robert Lewis Dear in Colorado Springs or Tashfeen Malik and Syed Rizwan Farook in San Bernardino, California, or even necessary steps to protect the border are going to address the root causes of evil. The "left" will not admit that fallen human nature is wounded or that adherents of various false religions are inclined to the commission of violence. The "right" will never admit that Catholicism is the one and only foundation of personal and social order, and Jorge Mario Bergoglio believes that "dialogue" and his "Jubilee Year of Mercy" will build the better world wherein people can seek to "save the planet" while losing their immortal souls. Sterile solutions from hypocritical and vapid minions of Antichrist.
Alas, hatred and violence must reign supreme in a world that has rebelled against Its loving, merciful King, Christ the King, Whose Most Sacred Heart beats with burning love in the tabernacles of Catholic churches served by true priests who offer the ineffable Sacrifice of Calvary in an unbloody manner in a valid rite of the Catholic Church. The only remedy to help retard mass murders, noting that there will always be difficulties even in a world governed by true principles because of the vagaries of fallen human nature, is to seek with urgency the conversion of all men, including Tamudists and Mohammedans and adherents of the false, naturalistic belief systems of the "left" or the "right," to the One, True Faith, outside of which there is no salvation and without which there can be no true social order.
Such a conversion, though, is deemed unnecessary and is actually opposed by the lords of the counterfeit church of conciliariasm, and thus it is that the world will be consigned to the madness of the abyss, consumed with the pursuit of material pleasures and self-interest to exclusion of all else, and that it will be stained by public crime as prophesied, respectively, by Pope Gregory XVI, Mirari Vos, August 15, 1832, Pope Pius IX, Quanta Cura, December 8, 1864,and Pope Leo XIII, Tametsi Futura Prospicientibus, November 1, 1900:
This shameful font of indifferentism gives rise to that absurd and erroneous proposition which claims that liberty of conscience must be maintained for everyone. It spreads ruin in sacred and civil affairs, though some repeat over and over again with the greatest impudence that some advantage accrues to religion from it. “But the death of the soul is worse than freedom of error,” as Augustine was wont to say. When all restraints are removed by which men are kept on the narrow path of truth, their nature, which is already inclined to evil, propels them to ruin. Then truly “the bottomless pit” is open from which John saw smoke ascending which obscured the sun, and out of which locusts flew forth to devastate the earth. Thence comes transformation of minds, corruption of youths, contempt of sacred things and holy laws — in other words, a pestilence more deadly to the state than any other. Experience shows, even from earliest times, that cities renowned for wealth, dominion, and glory perished as a result of this single evil, namely immoderate freedom of opinion, license of free speech, and desire for novelty. (Pope Gregory XVI, Mirari Vos, August 15, 1832.)
For you well know, venerable brethren, that at this time men are found not a few who, applying to civil society the impious and absurd principle of “naturalism,” as they call it, dare to teach that “the best constitution of public society and (also) civil progress altogether require that human society be conducted and governed without regard being had to religion any more than if it did not exist; or, at least, without any distinction being made between the true religion and false ones.” And, against the doctrine of Scripture, of the Church, and of the Holy Fathers, they do not hesitate to assert that “that is the best condition of civil society, in which no duty is recognized, as attached to the civil power, of restraining by enacted penalties, offenders against the Catholic religion, except so far as public peace may require.” From which totally false idea of social government they do not fear to foster that erroneous opinion, most fatal in its effects on the Catholic Church and the salvation of souls, called by Our Predecessor, Gregory XVI, an “insanity,” viz., that “liberty of conscience and worship is each man’s personal right, which ought to be legally proclaimed and asserted in every rightly constituted society; and that a right resides in the citizens to an absolute liberty, which should be restrained by no authority whether ecclesiastical or civil, whereby they may be able openly and publicly to manifest and declare any of their ideas whatever, either by word of mouth, by the press, or in any other way.” But, while they rashly affirm this, they do not think and consider that they are preaching “liberty of perdition;” and that “if human arguments are always allowed free room for discussion, there will never be wanting men who will dare to resist truth, and to trust in the flowing speech of human wisdom; whereas we know, from the very teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ, how carefully Christian faith and wisdom should avoid this most injurious babbling.”
And, since where religion has been removed from civil society, and the doctrine and authority of divine revelation repudiated, the genuine notion itself of justice and human right is darkened and lost, and the place of true justice and legitimate right is supplied by material force, thence it appears why it is that some, utterly neglecting and disregarding the surest principles of sound reason, dare to proclaim that “the people’s will, manifested by what is called public opinion or in some other way, constitutes a supreme law, free from all divine and human control; and that in the political order accomplished facts, from the very circumstance that they are accomplished, have the force of right.” But who, does not see and clearly perceive that human society, when set loose from the bonds of religion and true justice, can have, in truth, no other end than the purpose of obtaining and amassing wealth, and that (society under such circumstances) follows no other law in its actions, except the unchastened desire of ministering to its own pleasure and interests?” (Pope Pius IX, Quanta Cura, December 8, 1864.)
God alone is Life. All other beings partake of life, but are not life. Christ, from all eternity and by His very nature, is "the Life," just as He is the Truth, because He is God of God. From Him, as from its most sacred source, all life pervades and ever will pervade creation. Whatever is, is by Him; whatever lives, lives by Him. For by the Word "all things were made; and without Him was made nothing that was made." This is true of the natural life; but, as We have sufficiently indicated above, we have a much higher and better life, won for us by Christ's mercy, that is to say, "the life of grace," whose happy consummation is "the life of glory," to which all our thoughts and actions ought to be directed. The whole object of Christian doctrine and morality is that "we being dead to sin, should live to justice" (I Peter ii., 24)-that is, to virtue and holiness. In this consists the moral life, with the certain hope of a happy eternity. This justice, in order to be advantageous to salvation, is nourished by Christian faith. "The just man liveth by faith" (Galatians iii., II). "Without faith it is impossible to please God" (Hebrews xi., 6). Consequently Jesus Christ, the creator and preserver of faith, also preserves and nourishes our moral life. This He does chiefly by the ministry of His Church. To Her, in His wise and merciful counsel, He has entrusted certain agencies which engender the supernatural life, protect it, and revive it if it should fail. This generative and conservative power of the virtues that make for salvation is therefore lost, whenever morality is dissociated from divine faith. A system of morality based exclusively on human reason robs man of his highest dignity and lowers him from the supernatural to the merely natural life. Not but that man is able by the right use of reason to know and to obey certain principles of the natural law. But though he should know them all and keep them inviolate through life-and even this is impossible without the aid of the grace of our Redeemer-still it is vain for anyone without faith to promise himself eternal salvation. "If anyone abide not in Me, he shall be cast forth as a branch, and shall wither, and they shall gather him up and cast him into the fire, and he burneth" john xv., 6). "He that believeth not shall be condemned" (Mark xvi., 16). We have but too much evidence of the value and result of a morality divorced from divine faith. How is it that, in spite of all the zeal for the welfare of the masses, nations are in such straits and even distress, and that the evil is daily on the increase? We are told that society is quite able to help itself; that it can flourish without the assistance of Christianity, and attain its end by its own unaided efforts. Public administrators prefer a purely secular system of government. All traces of the religion of our forefathers are daily disappearing from political life and administration. What blindness! Once the idea of the authority of God as the Judge of right and wrong is forgotten, law must necessarily lose its primary authority and justice must perish: and these are the two most powerful and most necessary bonds of society. Similarly, once the hope and expectation of eternal happiness is taken away, temporal goods will be greedily sought after. Every man will strive to secure the largest share for himself. Hence arise envy, jealousy, hatred. The consequences are conspiracy, anarchy, nihilism. There is neither peace abroad nor security at home. Public life is stained with crime.
So great is this struggle of the passions and so serious the dangers involved, that we must either anticipate ultimate ruin or seek for an efficient remedy. It is of course both right and necessary to punish malefactors, to educate the masses, and by legislation to prevent crime in every possible way: but all this is by no means sufficient. The salvation of the nations must be looked for higher. A power greater than human must be called in to teach men's hearts, awaken in them the sense of duty, and make them better. This is the power which once before saved the world from destruction when groaning under much more terrible evils. Once remove all impediments and allow the Christian spirit to revive and grow strong in a nation, and that nation will be healed. The strife between the classes and the masses will die away; mutual rights will be respected. If Christ be listened to, both rich and poor will do their duty. The former will realise that they must observe justice and charity, the latter self-restraint and moderation, if both are to be saved. Domestic life will be firmly established ( by the salutary fear of God as the Lawgiver. In the same way the precepts of the natural law, which dictates respect for lawful authority and obedience to the laws, will exercise their influence over the people. Seditions and conspiracies will cease. Wherever Christianity rules over all without let or hindrance there the order established by Divine Providence is preserved, and both security and prosperity are the happy result. The common welfare, then, urgently demands a return to Him from whom we should never have gone astray; to Him who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and this on the part not only of individuals but of society as a whole. We must restore Christ to this His own rightful possession. All elements of the national life must be made to drink in the Life which proceedeth from Him- legislation, political institutions, education, marriage and family life, capital and labour. Everyone must see that the very growth of civilisation which is so ardently desired depends greatly upon this, since it is fed and grows not so much by material wealth and prosperity, as by the spiritual qualities of morality and virtue. (Pope Leo XIII, Tametsi Futura Prospicientibus, November 1, 1900.)
Saint Nicholas of Myra, whose feast is commemorated today, the Second Sunday of Advent, was a Successor of the Apostles who had a generous, loving heart in the pattern of the Most Sacred Heart of the Good Shepherd Himself, Christ the King, but who was also a firm and unequivocal foe of the heretic Arius and his heresy, Arianism.
The account of this great saint's life as found in the Blessed Jacobus de Voragine's The Golden Legend is what we should read to our children, not Clement Clarke Moore's '"A Visit from Saint Nicholas," in order to teach our children about Saint Nicholas's unfailing devotion to the cause of dogmatic truth, something that must inspire them to be as courageous as he was in this time of apostasy and betrayal as they grow up with figures of Antichrist all around them. It is appended below for your own meditation on this great feast day.
According an Athenian monk named Damaskinos, Saint Nicholas was imprisoned, albeit for a brief time, after he had slapped Arius at the Council of Nicea:
"The emperor was sitting on this throne, flanked by 159 bishops to his left and 159 to his right. Arian was presenting his views with great vigor and detail. As Saint Nicholas observed the scene, the bishops listened to Arius in complete silence without interrupting his discourse. Outraged and prompted by his saintly vigor, he left his seat and walked up to Arius, faced him squarely and slapped his face.
"At this, the assembly was shocked. Arius's supporters turned to the emperor, asking that he intervene and punish Nicholas. They said, 'Oh Just One, tell us, can it be fair that in your very presence someone should be permitted, without hindrance, to assault another? If he has anything to say in rebuttal, by all means let him have his say. But if he is not sufficiently learned to make a proper argument, then it were better if he remain in his seat, quietly, and listen to others who are prepared to state their case in words.'
'Arius himself spoke directly to the emperor, 'Should anyone who has the temerity to hit me, in from of Your Majesty, remain unpunished?' Emperor Constantine replied, 'Indeed, there is a law which forbids anyone to lift his hand in violence in the presence of the emperor and it specifies that his hand be cut off. However, it is not up to me, in this in Assembly, to act upon it. Instead, Your Holinesses, should make the decision in this case; I leave it to your judgment, whether and how this act is to be punished.'
"The bishops conferred with each other, and when they came to a decision, they said to the emperor, 'Your Majesty, the bishop of Myra has acted wrongfully. We all saw it happen and attest to it. We therefore ask your permission to let us strip him of his clerical garments, shackle him, and place him under guard as a prisoner. In this way, he shall not be permitted to participate in the proceedings of the Council for the rest of the deliberations. Once the synod is completed, a final judgment in his case may be made.'
"As a result, that evening, Nicholas was made a prisoner in another wing of the palace. He was placed in a jail-like room, without his bishop's mantle and shackled on hand and foot. However, during the night he was visited by Jesus [and His] Mother. They observed Saint Nicholas in his cell and said, 'Nicholas, why are you imprisoned?' And Saint Nicholas said, 'Because of my love for you." First they freed him from his shackles. And then Jesus said, 'Take this! and he gave him a volume of the Holy Scripture. Then [Mary] went away, returned, and brought him his bishop's garments, so that he might clothe himself with appropriate dignity. At peace, he studied the Holy Book through the night.
"The next morning, a jailer came to bring him bread, saw that Nicholas was no longer shackled, that he was clothed in the garments of his position, an that he was studying the Scriptures in the cell. Even his stole was in one hand, while he held the book with the other. News of this miraculous event was quickly brought to the emperor. He asked that Nicholas be freed, and when the two men met, the emperor asked the bishop's forgiveness (Ebon, 34-35)." That's the Saint Nicholas we should follow, not the false "Santa Clauses" of the false opposites of Modernity or the false "Santa Clauses" who have given away the Holy Faith in the name of "aggiornamento" and who have given away her moral authority to various "world governing" bodies (see Finishing Off The Overthrow of the Papal States).
The readings for Matins as found in the Divine Office for today's feast provide us with additional inspiration of a saint of true Catholic charity, starting with a love for God and the integrity of His Sacred Deposit of Faith:
Nicolas was born at the famous city of Patara in Lycia. His parents obtained him from God by prayer, and the holiness of his life was marked even from the cradle. When he was at the breast he never would suck more than once on Wednesdays and Fridays, and that always after sunset, though he sucked freely on other days. This custom of fasting he never broke through during his whole life. While he was still a young man he lost both his father and mother, after which he gave his whole property away to the poor. One particular example is given of his Christian charity. There was a certain needy man in the city who had three marriageable daughters, for whom he could not get husbands, and so thought to make them harlots. When Nicolas heard of it, he went to the house by night and threw in by the window such a sum of money as made a dowry for one of them. This he did a second and a third time, and thus by his charity they were honourably given in marriage.
When he had given himself entirely to God he set forth for Palestine, that he might see the Holy Places, and worship therein. During this pilgrimage he embarked once on board a ship when the sky was clear and the sea calm, but he foretold a great storm, which afterwards arose and raged until the sailors were afraid; and then the saint by prayer stilled the tempest. After he had returned home, and his holy life was known to all men, God bade him go to Myra, which is the chief city of Lycia, at a time when the Bishop had just died and the Bishops of the Province were called together to choose a successor. While they deliberated, they received a warning from heaven to choose that Nicolas who should first come into the church in the morning. In obedience to that warning, Nicolas was seized at the door of the church, and with universal consent consecrated Archbishop. In his great office he was an unceasing model of purity, as he had always been, of gravity, of regularity in prayer, of watching, of abstinence, of charity, of hospitality, of meekness in exhortation, and of sternness in rebuke.
He was the comforter of widows and orphans by money, by advice, and by labour. He was the deliverer of the oppressed, so mightily, that it is related that the Emperor Constantine once unjustly condemned three Tribunes to death, and these unhappy men called upon Nicolas, though living and absent, to save them, who yet appeared in a vision to the Emperor, and forced him by threats to set them free. When the Emperors Diocletian and Maximian published their edict against Christianity, Nicolas did not cease to preach the truth at Myra, wherefore he was seized by the soldiers of the Emperors, carried away from his See, and thrown into prison, where he remained until the accession of Constantine. This Prince set him free, and he returned to Myra. He betook himself to the first Council of Nice, where he was one of the 318 Bishops who condemned the heresy of Arius. He returned thence to his Bishopric, and, not long after, became aware of the approach of death. When his last moment was come, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and, when he saw the Angels coming to meet him, he began to recite the thirtieth Psalm, In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust, and when he had said, Into thy hands I commend my spirit, he passed to the heavenly Fatherland. His body was finally removed to Bari in Apulia, where it is kept with great fame and honour. (Matins for the Feast of Saint Nicholas.)
The prayer composed by Dom Prosper Gueranger, O.S.B., for this feast day is very relevant to our own days of apostasy and betrayal:
Holy pontiff Nicholas, how great is thy glory in God's Church! Thou didst confess the name of Jesus before the proconsuls of the world's empire and suffer persecution for His name's sake; afterwards thou wast witness to the wonderful workings of God, when He restored peace to His Church; and a short time after this again, thou didst open thy lips, in the assembly of the three hundred and eighteen fathers, to confess with supreme authority the Divinity of our Saviour Jesus Christ, for whose sake so many millions of martyrs had already shed their blood. Receive the devout felicitations of the Christian people throughout the universe, who thrill with joy when the think of thy glorious merits. Help us by thy prayers during these days when we are preparing for the coming of Him, whom thou didst proclaim to be consubstantial with the Father. Vouchsafe to assist our faith and to obtain fresh fervor to our love. Thou now beholdest face to face that Word by whom all things were made and redeemed; beseech Him to permit our unworthiness to approach Him. Be thou our intercessor with Him. Thou hast taught us to now Him as the sovereign and eternal God; teach us also to love Him as the supreme benefactor of the children of Adam. It was that tender compassion for the sufferings of they fellow-men, which made all thy miracles to be so many acts of kindness: cease not, now that thou art in the company of the angels, to have pity on us and to succour our miseries.
Stir up and increase the faith of mankind in the Saviour whom the Lord hath sent them. May this be one of the fruits of thy prayers, that the divine Word may be no longer unknown and forgotten in this world, which He has redeemed with His Blood. Ask for the pastors of the Church that spirit of charity, which shone so brilliantly in thee; that spirit which makes them like their divine Master, and wins them the hearts of their people.
Remember, too, O holy pontiff, that Church of the east which still loves thee so fervently. When thou wast on this earth, God gave thee power to raise the dead to life; pray now, that the true life, which consists in faith and unity, may return once more and animate that body which schism has robbed of its soul. By thy supplications, obtain of God that the sacrifice of the Lamb, who is soon to visit us, may be again and soon celebrated under the cupolas of St. Sophia. May the sanctuaries of Kiev and Moscow became resanctified by the return of the people to unity. May the pride of the crescent be humbled into submission to the cross, and the schismatic be brought to acknowledge the power of the keys of St. Peter' that thus there may be henceforth neither Scythian, nor barbarian, but one fold under one Shepherd. (As found in Dom Prosper Gueranger, O.S.B., The Liturgical Year.)
Saint Nicholas of Myra made no terms with error or heresy. Neither can we.
We must be willing to stand up for the truths of our Catholic Faith, including the Social Reign of Christ the King, without any equivocation or compromise in the slightest, yes, no matter if doing so costs us our very physical lives as to die for Our King will win us the crown of the only life that matters, eternal life in the glory of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost in Heaven.
As we pray for the souls of the dead and for the survivors of the massacre that took place four days ago, we must also remember to pray for an end to the hatred Christ the King that makes more possible the shedding of innocent blood, starting with the innocent preborn as mentioned before, than would be the case if nations obeyed Him as He is taught by His true Church and publicly honored His Most Blessed Mother as their Immaculate Queen, especially by esteeming the power of her Most Holy Rosary to turn back the tide of evil now as has been done so many times in the past.
