Over Fifty Years of Weasel Words and Cowardly Inaction
Although I am preparing a few video presentations before completing “Sin: More Deadly Than the Coronavirus, part fifteen,” which will take almost the entirety of the coming week to complete, I want to take a few moments to comment upon the total surrender of the so-called “pro-life” “bishops” of the so-called “United States Conference of Catholic Bishops” to their “pope’s” “Be Nice to Joe and Nancy” policy.
Despite much tough talk from several of the conciliar “bishops” about denying the pro-abortion likes of Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr., and Nancy Patricia D’Alesandro Pelosi from the reception of what purports to be Holy Communion in the Protestant and Judeo-Masonic Novus Ordo liturgical service, the statement they issued near the end of their annual meeting in Baltimore, Maryland, wound up being just another forgettable exercise in what has become a half-century of weasel words and cowardice in the face of the daily slaughter of the innocent preborn. These men and their predecessors have enabled and emboldened, either by canonical inaction or active support, fully three generations of pro-abortion Catholics in public life, not one of whom was ever excommunicated and many of them having been buried with full honors as Catholics in good standing within what is considered by all but a handful of largely fratricidal Catholics to be—but is not—the Catholic Church.
There is no need to run through the entire Dishonor List of Pro-Abortion Catholics who have been enabled and emboldened by the American “bishops” of the past and present as I have provided such a list many times before on this website and in hundreds of articles in The Wanderer during the 1990s. Suffice it to say that there have been three generations of Kennedys, two generations of Cuomos to go along with the likes of Edmund G. Brown, Jr., Gavin Newsom, Michelle Lujan Grisham, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Barbara Mikulski, Christopher Dodd, James Florio, Rudolph William Giuliani, George Pataki, Rick Lazio, Thomas Ridge, Thomas Harkin, Carol Mosely Braun, David Patterson, Kathleen Hochul, Christopher Dodd, Jack Reed, Edward Markey, Edmund Muskie, John Kerry, Patricia Murray, Richard Durbin, Larry Hogan, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Loretta Sanchez, Leon Panetta, Bill Richardson, Janet Reno, Charles Rangel, Robert Torricelli, Robert Menendez, Carolyn McCarthy, Thomas Menino, Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Thomas P. O’Neill, Thomas Foley, and every single current Catholic who is within the Democratic Caucus of the United States House of Representatives, among so many scores of others at the state and local levels. (As a native New Yorker, I think that it is interesting to point out that the state of my birth on November 24, 1951, has had seven consecutive pro-abortion governors dating back to Hugh Leo Carey in 1975, and of these seven six have been Catholics: Hugh Leo Carey, Mario Matthew Cuomo, George Elmer Pataki, David Patterson, Andrew Mark Cuomo, and Kathleen Courtney Hochul.)
Nothing has ever happened to those listed just above, and the new document, The Mystery of the Eucharist in the Life of the Church, makes it clear that nothing is ever going to happen to those pro-abortion Catholics who hold public office currently. Here is the first of two references to the surgical execution of the preborn found in this absolutely meaningless and completely shallow document:
Pope Francis has warned us that in our “throwaway culture” we need to fight the tendency to view people as “disposable”: “Some parts of our human family, it appears, can be readily sacrificed for the sake of others considered worthy of a carefree existence. Ultimately, “persons are no longer seen as a paramount value to be cared for and respected, especially when they are poor and disabled, ‘not yet useful’ – like the unborn, or ‘no longer needed’ – like the elderly.” As Christians, we bear the responsibility to promote the life and dignity of the human person, and to love and to protect the most vulnerable in our midst: the unborn, migrants and refugees, victims of racial injustice, the sick and the elderly.
The Second Vatican Council stresses the importance of reverence toward the human person. “Everyone must consider his every neighbor without exception as another self, taking into account first of all his life and the means necessary to living it with dignity, so as not to imitate the rich man who had no concern for the poor man Lazarus.” The Council goes on to say that:
whatever is opposed to life itself, such as any type of murder, genocide, abortion, euthanasia or willful self-destruction, whatever violates the integrity of the human person, such as mutilation, torments inflicted on body or mind, attempts to coerce the will itself; whatever insults human dignity, such as subhuman living conditions, arbitrary imprisonment, deportation, slavery, prostitution, the selling of women and children; as well as disgraceful working conditions, where men are treated as mere tools for profit, rather than as free and responsible persons; all these things and others of their like are infamies indeed. They poison human society, but they do more harm to those who practice them than those who suffer from the injury.
40. Just as we are impelled by the Eucharist to hear the cry of the poor, and respond in love, we are also called to hear the cry of the earth and, likewise, respond with loving care. Pope Francis, like Pope Benedict XVI before him, has eloquently drawn the connection between the celebration of the Eucharist and care for the environment. All creation gives glory to God, and journeys toward divinization, toward union with the Creator. (The Mystery of the Eucharist in the Life of the Church.)
Brief Comment Number One:
The efforts of the American “bishops” to cite the supposed opposition of Jorge Mario Bergoglio, who goes by the stage name of “Pope Francis” to the general public, rings hollow when one considers the great enthusiasm with which the Argentine Apostate has greeted pro-abortion politicians from around the world without a word of criticism from him about their support for baby-killing, most recently greeting Nancy Patricia D’Alesandro Pelosi and Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr., with great warmth and enthusiasm. After all, Bergoglio once greeted an actual baby-butcher, Emma Bongino, whom he praised for her work with immigrants.
Moreover, the direct, intentional taking of an innocent human life is one of the four sins that cry out to Heaven for vengeance and thus cannot be equated with “subhuman living conditions, arbitrary imprisonment, and disgraceful working conditions” while claiming at the same time that “deportation” is somehow a crime before God, thus vitiating the moral liceity of the a nation’s obligations under the Natural Law to secure its borders and to provide for an orderly process of immigration with due regard for public health and safety.
Finally, to equate the “protection of the environment” to the absolute inviolability of all innocent human life is repulsive and obscene. Yet it is that this has become standard fare in the Bergoglio era after it has long been a part of the late Joseph Bernardin’s “consistent of ethic of life” that was and remains nothing other than a shield to afford pro-abortion Democrats from being considered unfit for office because they were supportive of state-regulations of the economy accompanied by massive administrative rules and regulations that are unnecessary, unconstitutional, and completely violative of the Natural Law principle of subsidiarity that was elucidated as follows by Pope Pius XI in Quadragesimo Anno, May 15, 1931:
As history abundantly proves, it is true that on account of changed conditions many things which were done by small associations in former times cannot be done now save by large associations. Still, that most weighty principle, which cannot be set aside or changed, remains fixed and unshaken in social philosophy: Just as it is gravely wrong to take from individuals what they can accomplish by their own initiative and industry and give it to the community, so also it is an injustice and at the same time a grave evil and disturbance of right order to assign to a greater and higher association what lesser and subordinate organizations can do. For every social activity ought of its very nature to furnish help to the members of the body social, and never destroy and absorb them.
The supreme authority of the State ought, therefore, to let subordinate groups handle matters and concerns of lesser importance, which would otherwise dissipate its efforts greatly. Thereby the State will more freely, powerfully, and effectively do all those things that belong to it alone because it alone can do them: directing, watching, urging, restraining, as occasion requires and necessity demands. Therefore, those in power should be sure that the more perfectly a graduated order is kept among the various associations, in observance of the principle of "subsidiary function," the stronger social authority and effectiveness will be the happier and more prosperous the condition of the State. (Pope Pius XI, Quadragesimo Anno, May 15, 1931.)
Most of the programs that were created during the “New Deal” of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the “Great Society”/“War on Poverty” of Lyndon Baines Johnson and that are being created under the aegis of “Build Back Better” during the administration of the incompetent, arrogant, cognitively challenged, morally, politically and criminally corrupt plagiarist and intellectual lightweight even in his youth Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr., have sought to address problems caused by the systematic breakdown of the family caused by the promotion of all manner of sins under cover of the civil law in the belief that the “government” has salvific powers to “save” men from crises of their own making. These programs have nothing to do with “economic justice” but everything to do with statist control of every aspect of social life.
The next part of the American “bishops’” weaselly document that is relevant for our purposes attempted to straddle the chasm between “conservative” “bishops” (Joseph Strickland of Tyler, Texas, Thomas Tobin of Providence, Rhode Island, and Raymond Paprocki of Springfield, Illinois) and the “progressive” and enablers of sodomy and statism “bishops” (Joseph Tobin of Newark, New Jersey, John Stowe, of Lexington, Kentucky, Wilton Gregory of Washington, District of Columbia, Blase Cupich of Chicago, Illinois, and Robert McElroy of San Diego, California) by leaving the matter of punishing Catholics who ignore the teaching of the Catholic Church in their duties as public officials to each conciliar “bishop” within their own dioceses:
We also need to keep in mind that “the celebration of the Eucharist presupposes that communion already exists, a communion which it seeks to consolidate and bring to perfection.” The Eucharist is the sacrament of ecclesial communion, as it both signifies and effects most fully the communion with Christ that began in Baptism. This includes communion in its “visible” dimension, which entails communion in the teaching of the Apostles, in the sacraments and in the Church’s hierarchical order.” Likewise, the reception of Holy Communion entails one’s communion with the Church in this visible dimension. We repeat what the U.S. Bishops stated in 2006:
If a Catholic in his or her personal or professional life were knowingly and obstinately to reject the defined doctrines of the Church, or knowingly and obstinately to repudiate her definitive teaching on moral issues, however, he or she would seriously diminish his or her communion with the Church. Reception of Holy Communion in such a situation would not accord with the nature of the Eucharistic celebration, so that he or she should refrain.
Reception of Holy Communion in such a situation is also likely to cause scandal for others, weakening their resolve to be faithful to the demands of the Gospel.
One’s communion with Christ and His Church, therefore, involves both one’s “invisible communion” (being in the state of grace) and one’s “visible communion.” St. John Paul II explained: The judgment of one’s state of grace obviously belongs only to the person involved, since it is a question of examining one’s conscience.
However, in cases of outward conduct which is seriously, clearly and steadfastly contrary to the moral norm, the Church, in her pastoral concern for the good order of the community and out of respect for the sacrament, cannot fail to feel directly involved. The Code of Canon Law refers to this situation of a manifest lack of proper moral disposition when it states that those who ‘obstinately persist in manifest grave sin’ are not to be admitted to Eucharistic communion.
It is the special responsibility of the diocesan bishop to work to remedy situations that involve public actions at variance with the visible communion of the Church and the moral law. Indeed, he must guard the integrity of the sacrament, the visible communion of the Church, and the salvation of souls. (The Mystery of the Eucharist in the Life of the Church.)
Brief Comment Number Two:
In other words, all the war of words that has taken place in the past two years concerning Joseph Robinette Biden’s support for the daily slaughter of the innocent preborn as a constitutional “right” has been, as per usual, for naught. Nothing has ever happened to the likes Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr., and nothing ever will happen as the conciliar “bishops” in the United States of America are at odds over the gravity of a Catholic in public life supporting one or more of the four sins that cry out to Heaven for vengeance (willful murder, the sin of Sodom, defrauding the widow, and withholding the day laborer’s wages). Weaselly words, cowardly inaction and a “pope” who embraces with warmth the very public officials whom some of his “unenlightened” “bishops” seek to punish for their support of the daily slaughter of the preborn.
Consider the contrast between the unnecessarily wordy document of the American conciliar apostates with the concise clarity of Pope Pius XI in Casti Connubii, December 31, 1930:
Those who hold the reins of government should not forget that it is the duty of public authority by appropriate laws and sanctions to defend the lives of the innocent, and this all the more so since those whose lives are endangered and assailed cannot defend themselves. Among whom we must mention in the first place infants hidden in the mother's womb. And if the public magistrates not only do not defend them, but by their laws and ordinances betray them to death at the hands of doctors or of others, let them remember that God is the Judge and Avenger of innocent blood which cried from earth to Heaven. (Pope Pius XI, Casti Connubii, December 30, 1930.)
Such is not the language of conciliar “dialogue.” Such is the language of Catholic truth spoken prophetically by a true and legitimate Successor of Saint Peter.
To be sure, there have been a few conciliar "bishops" in the United States of America who have raised their voices about banning the pro-abortion likes of Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr., from the reception of what purports to be Holy Communion in the Protestant and Judeo-Masonic Novus Ordo liturgical service. Of the three who have been outspoken (Thoms Tobin of Providence, Rhode Island, Raymond Paprocky of Springfield, Illinois, and Joseph Strickland of Tyler, Texas) in this regard, "Bishop" Joseph Strickland's most recent statement on the matter is simply superb:
Allow me to return to that Greek philosopher and the 90%. Heraclitus was a philosopher and a warrior. During a lull in the battle he wrote a letter to the leaders of Athens regarding the soldiers he was receiving as replacements. He said that for every 100 men they sent 90 were useless. They were little more than battlefield clutter. Out of the 100, about 10 were fighters and the outcome of the battle rested on their shoulders. And maybe one, only one, was a true warrior. The spiritual warfare is no less warfare, and I believe the percentages apply. The vast majority doesn’t want to know the truth. They just want things to be “nice” and the truth and the demands it would place on them as followers of Christ are unacceptable. I appreciate those who pray but if that’s all you do, remember it says in the epistle of St. James that “Faith without works is dead and has no power to save you!” I would ask those 90% to consider joining the warrior class. You are needed! If you cannot – Then at least stay out of the way. The battle is tough enough without clutter. If you cannot fight this Goliath, at least stand back and make room for those who are going forward to sling their stones. The false charity and empty spirituality of those who mouth pious platitudes over the broken bodies and souls of the innocent is an affront to the martyrs and missionaries who gave their lives to share the true faith. I have seen, up close and personal, the heart-rending results of allowing predators to destroy children, families, and faith. A “drawing room” spirituality does not have the power to fight the malignant evil of this age. Delicate sensibilities must be sacrificed and hands dirtied in favor of a cross-centered faith! We are not fighting for principles or philosophies. We are fighting for SOULS and we must not lose! (As found at: Is Bishop Strickland Sending a Message to His Fellow Bishops?)
We must pray for men such as Joseph Strickland who understand the proper role of a bishop to come to see and then accept the true state of the Church Militant in this time of apostasy and betrayal so that they can ordained and, quite perhaps, even consecrated validity to provide the faithful with the sacramens and thus the supernatural helps that they need to be courageous in these times of spiritual and temporal peril.
A qualification is now in order.
Although, to be sure, it must be noted that the use of the Catholic Church’s disciplinary powers has varied widely from time to time and from place to place and that such powers are not protected either by the infallibility of the Roman Pontiff or her universal ordinary magisterium, it is nevertheless true, however, that Pope Saint Pius X, for example, would have used as firm a hand with respect to Catholics in public life who dared to promote willful murder as a human “right” as he did when lowering the boom on Modernists in general in Praestantia Scripturae, November 18, 1907:
In his encyclical letter "Providentissimus Deus," given on November 18, 1893, our predecessor, Leo XIII, of immortal memory, after describing the dignity of Sacred Scripture and commending the study of it, set forth the laws which govern the proper study of the Holy Bible; and having proclaimed the divinity of these books against the errors and calumnies of the rationalists, he at the same time defended them against the false teachings of what is known as the higher criticism, which, as the Pontiff most wisely wrote, are clearly nothing but the commentaries of rationalism derived from a misuse of philology and kindred studies. Our predecessor, too, seeing that the danger was constantly on the increase and wishing to prevent the propagation of rash and erroneous views, by his apostolic letters "Vigilantes studiique memores," given on October 30, 1902, established a Pontifical Council or Commission on Biblical matters, composed of several Cardinals of the Holy Roman Church distinguished for their learning and wisdom, to which Commission were added as consulters a number of men in sacred orders chosen from among the learned in theology and in the Holy Bible, of various nationalities and differing in their methods and views concerning exegetical studies. In so doing the Pontiff had in mind as an advantage most adapted for the promotion of study and for the time in which we live that in this Commission there should be the fullest freedom for proposing, examining and judging all opinions whatsoever, and that the Cardinals of the Commission were not to reach any definite decision, as described in the said apostolic letters, before they had examined the arguments in favor and against the question to be decided, omitting nothing which might serve to show in the clearest light the true and genuine state of the Biblical questions under discussion. Only after all this had been done were the decisions reached to be submitted for the approval of the Supreme Pontiff and then promulgated.
After mature examination and the most diligent deliberations the Pontifical Biblical Commission has happily given certain decisions of a very useful kind for the proper promotion and direction on safe lines of Biblical studies. But we observe that some persons, unduly prone to opinions and methods tainted by pernicious novelties and excessively devoted to the principle of false liberty, which is really immoderate license and in sacred studies proves itself to be a most insidious and a fruitful source of the worst evils against the purity of the faith, have not received and do not receive these decisions with the proper obedience.
Wherefore we find it necessary to declare and to expressly prescribe, and by this our act we do declare and decree that all are bound in conscience to submit to the decisions of the Biblical Commission relating to doctrine, which have been given in the past and which shall be given in the future, in the same way as to the decrees of the Roman congregations approved by the Pontiff; nor can all those escape the note of disobedience or temerity, and consequently of grave sin, who in speech or writing contradict such decisions, and this besides the scandal they give and the other reasons for which they may be responsible before God for other temerities and errors which generally go with such contradictions.
Moreover, in order to check the daily increasing audacity of many modernists who are endeavoring by all kinds of sophistry and devices to detract from the force and efficacy not only of the decree "Lamentabili sane exitu" (the so-called Syllabus), issued by our order by the Holy Roman and Universal Inquisition on July 3 of the present year, but also of our encyclical letters "Pascendi dominici gregis" given on September 8 of this same year, we do by our apostolic authority repeat and confirm both that decree of the Supreme Sacred Congregation and those encyclical letters of ours, adding the penalty of excommunication against their contradictors, and this we declare and decree that should anybody, which may God forbid, be so rash as to defend any one of the propositions, opinions or teachings condemned in these documents he falls, ipso facto, under the censure contained under the chapter "Docentes" of the constitution "Apostolicae Sedis," which is the first among the excommunications latae sententiae, simply reserved to the Roman Pontiff. This excommunication is to be understood as salvis poenis, which may be incurred by those who have violated in any way the said documents, as propagators and defenders of heresies, when their propositions, opinions and teachings are heretical, as has happened more than once in the case of the adversaries of both these documents, especially when they advocate the errors of the modernists that is, the synthesis of all heresies.
Wherefore we again and most earnestly exhort the ordinaries of the dioceses and the heads of religious congregations to use the utmost vigilance over teachers, and first of all in the seminaries; and should they find any of them imbued with the errors of the modernists and eager for what is new and noxious, or lacking in docility to the prescriptions of the Apostolic See, in whatsoever way published, let them absolutely forbid the teaching office to such; so, too, let them exclude from sacred orders those young men who give the very faintest reason for doubt that they favor condemned doctrines and pernicious novelties. We exhort them also to take diligent care to put an end to those books and other writings, now growing exceedingly numerous, which contain opinions or tendencies of the kind condemned in the encyclical letters and decree above mentioned; let them see to it that these publications are removed from Catholic publishing houses, and especially from the hands of students and the clergy. By doing this they will at the same time be promoting real and solid education, which should always be a subject of the greatest solicitude for those who exercise sacred authority.
All these things we will and order to be sanctioned and established by our apostolic authority, aught to the contrary notwithstanding. (Pope Saint Pius X, Praestantia Scripturae, November 18, 1907.
Pope Pius X had a true pastoral heart. He was concerned about defending the Faith, which he did to the best of his ability to protect the souls for whom Our Blessed Lord Saviour Jesus Christ shed, and a true pope who had such a pastoral heart today would issue a blanket document such as Praesentia Scripturae to excommunicate all Catholics in public life who grave moral evils in defiance of the binding precepts of the Divine Law and the Natural Law.
True popes and bishops must, of course, first of all exhibit the tenderness of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus when exhorting public sinners to repent and convert. It is the mind of Holy Mother Church to exercise as much patience as possible in this process of exhortation.
However, it is now fifty-four years since the States of Colorado and California decriminalized the killing of preborn babies in most cases, fifty-two years since State of New Jersey did so, and fifty-one years since the State of New York followed suit with the help of a Catholic State Senator, Edward Speno (R-East Meadow, Long Island), who was, as I have noted in the past, permitted to have a so-called “Mass of Christian Burial” at Sacred Heart Church in North Merrick, Long Island, after having been denied one by the late Father Francis Bain at Saint Raphael Church in his home community of East Meadow. We are coming up on the forty-ninth anniversary of the decisions of the Supreme Court of the United States of America in the cases of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, January 22, 1983. There has been more than ample time for exhortation. Indeed, the conciliar “bishops’” inaction and weasel words have converted none and have, quite instead, hardened the hearts and emboldened the nerves of those committed to thirty pieces of silver from the electorate rather than to follow these plain words of Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ:
[23] And he said to all: If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. [24] For whosoever will save his life, shall lose it; for he that shall lose his life for my sake, shall save it. [25] For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, and cast away himself?
[26] For he that shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him the Son of man shall be ashamed, when he shall come in his majesty, and that of his Father, and of the holy angels. (Luke 9: 23-26.)
How many more lives must be snuffed out before the conciliar “bishops” act?
How many more lies must be told before the conciliar “bishops” speak out both individually and collectively?
Then again, how much more lies about Catholic Faith and Morals will Catholics of good will accept before they come to recognize that the counterfeit church of conciliarism is not the Catholic Church and that it is far past time for them to flee from the abomination of desolation that is its Novus Ordo liturgical service?
Mind you, there is little we can say, especially to our relatives, friends, and former colleagues, about the state of the Church in this time of apostasy and betrayal. So few people care to know the truth and many others want to continue to persist in the ready lies about the papacy that have been fed to them by those in the “resist while recognize” movement as they do want to be “stigmatized” by being branded as a “sedevacantism.”
Thus, we must pray and make sacrifices for our fellow Catholics as we seek also to make reparation for our own sins by offering up to the Throne of the Most Blessed Trinity as the consecrated slaves of Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary all that we must suffer in this time of trial that the good God has known from all eternity would be ours.
We must pray our Rosaries each day with fervor for what Pope Saint Pius X told us would be the “restoration that is to come” as we take solace in the words of the Gospel which will be read at Holy Mass today, the Twenty-sixth and Last Sunday after Pentecost and the Commemoration of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary:
At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: When you see the abomination of desolation, which was spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place - let him who reads understand - then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains; and let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything from his house; and let him who is in the field not turn back to take his cloak. But woe to those who are with child, or have infants at the breast in those days! But pray that your flight may not be in the winter, or on the Sabbath. For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, nor will be. And unless those days had been shortened, no living creature would be saved. But for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened. Then if anyone say to you, ‘Behold, here is the Christ,’ or ‘There He is,’ do not believe it. For false christs and false prophets will arise, and will show great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. Behold, I have told it to you beforehand. If therefore they say to you, ‘Behold, He is in the desert,’ do not go forth; ‘Behold, He is in the inner chambers,’ do not believe it. For as the lightning comes forth from the east and shines even to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. Wherever the body is, there will the eagles be gathered together. But immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give her light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of heaven will be shaken. And then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven; and then will all tribes of the earth mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming upon the clouds of heaven with great power and majesty. And He will send forth His angels with a trumpet and a great sound, and they will gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other. Now from the fig tree learn this parable. When its branch is now tender, and the leaves break forth, you know that summer is near. Even so, when you see all these things, know that it is near, even at the door. Amen I say to you, this generation will not pass away till all these things have been accomplished. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. (Matthew 24: 15-35.)
The fact of the counterfeit church of conciliarism as something distinct from the Catholic Church as founded by Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ upon the Rock of Saint Peter, our first pope, has not been proclaimed juridically anymore than many of the Arian bishops had been considered as outside the communion of the Catholic Church until the condemnation of Arias by the Council of Nicea in the year 325 A.D. (although the persecution of Catholic bishops such as Saint Athanasius by the Arians and Emperor Constantius, the son of Emperor Constantine, continued until nearly the end of the fourth century, by which time it was clear to most that Arianism was not the same as Catholicism). We must use our sensus Catholicus to recognize that the Catholic Church, she who is the immaculate, mystical spouse of her Divine Founder and Invisible Head, Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, can never teach heresy and can teach anything, guided as she is infallibly by the Third Person of the Most Blessed Trinity, God the Holy Ghost, other than what she has received from her Divine Founder and has deposited in her motherly arms to be taught infallibly and safeguarded eternally until His Second Coming on the Last Day at the General Judgment of the living and the dead. The existence of this counterfeit church is a matter of fact (de facto) even though it has not been declared by law (de jure).
Anyone who does not flee from the abomination of desolation that is the counterfeit church of conciliarism and its invalid and sacrilegious liturgical rites at this point is not facing reality honestly. Indeed, it was Saint Jerome himself in a commentary that is included in Matins for Divine Office for today that it is our duty to flee from the sort of false doctrines, false christs and false rubrics that have been fashioned by the conciliar revolutionaries and are taught, falsely, of course, as representing the Catholic Faith:
But we may also understand by the abomination of desolation, any bad doctrine and when we see such a thing get a standing in the Holy Place, that is, in the Church, and showing itself that it is God, that is, pretending that it is His revealed truth, then will be the time when it will be our duty to flee from Judea into the mountains, that is to say, to leave the letter, which passeth away, and all guise of Jewish superstition, and to hie us unto the everlasting hills, from whence God doth right wondrously cause His light to shine forth. Ps. lxxv. 5. Then will it be our duty to find ourselves under a roof and in an house, wherethrough the fiery darts of the wicked one can never pierce to smite us, and not to come down to take anything out of the house of our old conversation, or to have regard unto those things which are behind but rather to sow in the field of the spiritual Scriptures, that we may reap thereof a bountiful harvest neither to have two coats, that thing forbidden to Apostles. (Matins, Divine Office, Last Sunday after Pentecost.)
The world as we know it is passing away, and as Father Benedict Baur, O.S.B., noted in his reflection on this Last Sunday after Pentecost:
The power of Christ will be made manifest in the resurrection of the dead. The prophet Ezechiel saw in a vision a field filled with the bones of the dead. But the Spirit of the Lord passed over this field, and a voice said: “I will lay sinews upon you and will cause flesh to grow over you, and will cover you with a new skin; and I will give you spirit, and you shall live and you shall know that I am the Lord. . . . Behold, I will open your graves and bring you out of your sepulchers, O my people; . . . and you shall live” (Ezech. 37:6-14). What the prophet saw in a vision will come to pass at the Last Judgment. Christ the Lord will open the graves of the dead and lead them forth that they may live again. Then they will all acknowledge that He is the Lord, “for He must reign until He hath put all His enemies under His feet. And the enemy death shall be destroyed last (1 Cor. 15:25 f.). When He calls, everyone without exception will rise from his grave; no one will be able to resist His powerful word. All must obey Him and resume the body which they laid aside at death. The power of the word of Christ will unite again the elements that had returned to dust, that had decayed and had been scattered to the four winds. The power of death will finally be conquered by the power of Christ, which on this day will be made manifest to all the world. How the Church rejoices in this victory of Christ! It will indeed be the “day of Christ.”
The power of Christ will also be manifested in the destruction of the world. “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words shall not pass away” (Gospel). “But the heavens and earth are now, . . . [are] reserved until fire against the Day of Judgment. . . . But we look for new heavens and a new earth according to His promises, in which justice dwelleth (2 Peter 3:17, 13). The resurrection of a single soul is the guarantee of the redemption of the universe. “For the expectation of the creature waiteth for the revelation of the sons of God. . . . Because the creature also itself shall be delivered from the servitude of corruption, into the liberty of the glory of the children of God” (Rom. 9: 19, 21). What God intended for humanity and for the whole of creation, but which is now obscure by the mire of sin and death and which sighs under the curse of vanity, will in that time be restored to its pristine beauty and harmony; and the excellence and the beauty of God’s plan will be revealed.
“I saw a new heaven and a new earth. . . . And I, John, saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband” (Apoc. 21: 1 f.). The new Jerusalem, heaven, will descend to the earth from above. This new Jerusalem will appear as a bride adorned and going to meet her spouse. Heaven will then no longer be the secret dwelling place of God, the revelation of God to man. The heavens above and the heaven below, appearances and reality, will be one. What is earthly will become heavenly, and what is of the body will be but a mirror for the spirit. Creation will be perfected in God; it will know no decline, no change, no distress. Nothing will be altered; but creation will take on the beauty of God Himself and enjoy an eternal spring. It will be always young and always new. Healed will be the conflict between flesh and spirit which sin caused in man and in all creation, and harmony and order will be re-established, not only in individual me, but in all creation, “That God may be all in all” (1 Cor. 15:28). Salvation and final redemption will be granted to the body and the soul of man, to heaven and earth, and to all things that exist, through the incarnate Son of God. “They kingdom come.”
“The day of Christ” will be a day of victory, the day of triumph for Christ’s truth, humility, and love. Glory to thee, O Christ, the Victor, the King in whom all things live.
“The day of Christ” will be a day of triumph for the Church, for her beliefs, for her sacraments, for her sufferings borne for Christ, for her prayer, for her work for souls. The Church will conquer and live triumphant, and we shall triumph with her.
“The day of Christ” will be a day of victory for the Holy Eucharist, which has nourished the germ of life in us. “He that eateth My flesh and drinketh My blood, hath everlasting life. And I will raise him in the last day” (John 6: 55). “The day of Christ” will be a day of triumph for our faith in the Eucharist and our devotion to it.
“The day of Christ” will be a day of triumph for the first-born from the dead, and for us, whom He has recalled to life, giving us a proof His Justice and mercy, of His power and holiness. (Father Benedict Baur, O.S.B., The Light of the World, translated by Father Edward Malone, O.S.B., Volume II, B. Herder Book Company, Saint Louis, Missouri, and London, England, 1954, pp. 411-413.)
Our fleeing from the abomination of desolation does not make us one whit better than those of our fellow Catholics who have not yet come to recognize that truth of our ecclesiastical situation in this time of apostasy and betrayal, and it certainly does guarantee that we will persevere in a state of Sanctifying Grace until the moment of our death.
Although today’s liturgy turns our thoughts to Last Judgment, we must meditate of the simple fact that our own Particular Judgment at the hour of own death is closer than we may think, which is why we must remain ever reliant upon and confident in—without being in the least bit presumptuous—of the merciful protection of Our Lady, Queen of Mercy, she is who both the Mother of Perpetual Help and the Help of Christians.
