Benedictus Qui Venit in Nomine Domini, Hosanna in Excelsis, part four
Today, Monday, April 8, 2024, is the transferred Feast of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the day on which the Word through Whom all things were made became Incarnate by the power of God the Holy Ghost in the Virginal and Immaculate Womb of His Most Blessed Mother, and It was Our Lady’s perfect Fiat to the will of God the Father as announced by Saint Gabriel the Archangel that made possible our very salvation as the knot of Eve’s prideful disobedience as untied by the New Eve, who was full of grace from the first moment of her Immaculate Conception.
Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ spent nine months within the sanctuary of His Most Blessed Mother’s Virginal and Immaculate Womb before being born of her miraculously in in the city of David, Bethlehem, as had been foretold by the prophet Micaeus as follows:
1 Now shalt thou be laid waste, O daughter of the robber: they have laid siege against us, with a rod shall they strike the cheek of the judge of Israel.
2 And thou, Bethlehem Ephrata, art a little one among the thousands of Juda: out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be the ruler in Israel: and his going forth is from the beginning, from the days of eternity.
3 Therefore will he give them up even till the time wherein she that travaileth shall bring forth: and the remnant of his brethren shall be converted to the children of Israel.
4 And he shall stand, and feed in the strength of the Lord, in the height of the name of the Lord, his God: and they shall be converted, for now shall he be magnified even to the ends of the earth.
5 And this man shall be our peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land, and when he shall set his foot in our houses: and we shall raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men.
6 And they shall feed the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nemrod with the spears thereof: and he shall deliver us from the Assyrian when he shall come into our land, and when he shall tread in our borders.
7 And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many peoples, as a dew from the Lord, and as drops upon the grass, which waiteth not for man, nor tarrieth for the children of men.
8 And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles, in the midst of many peoples, as a lion among the beasts of the forests, and as a young lion among the flocks of sheep: who, when he shall go through, and tread down, and take, there is none to deliver.
9 Thy hand shall be lifted up over thy enemies, and all thy enemies shall be cut off.
10 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord, that I will take away thy horses out of the midst of thee, and will destroy thy chariots.
11 And I will destroy the cities of thy land, and will throw down all thy strong holds, and I will take away sorceries out of thy hand, and there shall be no divinations in thee.
12 And I will destroy thy graven things, and thy statues, out of the midst of thee: and thou shalt no more adore the works of thy hands.
13 And I will pluck up thy groves out of the midst of thee: and will crush thy cities.
14 And I will execute vengeance in wrath, and in indignation, among all the nations that have not given ear. (Micheas 5: 1-10.)
Father George Leo Haydock’s commentary on these verses is instructive as it demonstrates that the Jews went to great lengths after Our Lord’s Crucifixion, Death, and Resurrection to remove all references to the Messias being born in Bethlehem:
Ver. 2. Ephrata. This was the ancient name (Haydock) of Bethlehem, (Genesis xxxv. 16.) though some think that it was so called after Caleb’s wife, 1 Paralipomenon ii. 19. — Art, or “art thou?” &c., which makes it agree with Matthew ii. 4. — Little. Hebrew tsahir, (Haydock) is often rendered “considerable.” (Chaldean) — Thousands: capital cities, Zacharias ix. 7. Bethlehem seemed too mean to send forth a ruler over the rest. The ancient Jews clearly understood this of the Messias. The moderns explain it of Zorobabel: but the expressions are too grand for him. (Calmet) — St. Jerome accuses the Jews of having designedly omitted some cities, (Josue xv. 60.) because Bethlehem Ephrata is one. It is nowhere else thus described. (Kennicott) — The priests substituted land of Juda instead of Ephrata, Matthew ii. (Haydock) — The evangelist recites their words, to shew their negligence in quoting Scripture. “Yet some assert, that in almost all quotations from the Old Testament the order or words are changed, and sometimes the sense,….as the apostles did not write out of a book, but trusted to memory, which is sometimes fallacious.” (St. Jerome) — This principle would he very dangerous, (Simon. Crit. i. 17.) and we should attribute the variation to other causes, as the sacred penman could not mistake. (Haydock) — Bethlehem, though a little town, was rendered more illustrious than many others by the birth of Christ. (Worthington) — Forth. That is, he who as man shall be born in thee, as God was born of his Father from all eternity. (Challoner) — His coming was also long before announced. (Origen, contra Cels. i.) — But the former sense is preferable. (Calmet) — Eternity. These expressions singly imply a long time; (Exodus xxi. 6., and Psalm xxiii. 7.) but when doubled, sęculum sęculi, &c., they must be understood of an absolute eternity, which Christ enjoyed with the Father and the Holy Ghost; though, in his human nature, he was born in time. Yes, from whom God had withdrawn His favor when the curtain in the Temple was torn in two from top to bottom as His Co-Equal, Co-Eternal Divine Son took His last breath on the wood of the Holy Cross on Good Friday knew their own Scriptures pointed equivocally to Our Lord as being the long-awaited Messias, but their pride and jealously were such that some of their priests had to comb through the very words they professed to be of Divine inspiration to eradicate references to Him. The prideful rejection of Our Lord, Whom they knew to be God, led to efforts to obscure the truth of the Resurrection and thence to persecute the Apostles even though the Jews had been given a period of mercy to respond to the preaching of the Gospel.
Our Lord had prophesied that Jerusalem would be destroyed and that stone upon stone would not remain standing of the Temple there, something that the ancient Jews did not realize would be fulfilled when the Divine Redeemer they had rejected used the pagan Romans to disperse most of them to different parts of the world to serve as a perpetual chastisement upon faithless Catholics:
And Jesus being come out of the temple, went away. And his disciples came to shew him the buildings of the temple. 2 And he answering, said to them: Do you see all these things? Amen I say to you there shall not be left here a stone upon a stone that shall not be destroyed 3 And when he was sitting on mount Olivet, the disciples came to him privately, saying: Tell us when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the consummation of the world? 4 And Jesus answering, said to them: Take heed that no man seduce you: 5 For many will come in my name saying, I am Christ: and they will seduce many.
6 And you shall hear of wars and rumours of wars. See that ye be not troubled. For these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there shall be pestilences, and famines, and earthquakes in places: 8 Now all these are the beginnings of sorrows. 9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall put you to death: and you shall be hated by all nations for my name's sake. 10 And then shall many be scandalized: and shall betray one another: and shall hate one another.
11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall seduce many. 12 And because iniquity hath abounded, the charity of many shall grow cold. 13 But he that shall persevere to the end, he shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom, shall be preached in the whole world, for a testimony to all nations, and then shall the consummation come. 15 When therefore you shall see the abomination of desolation, which was spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place: he that readeth let him understand. Father George Leo Haydock’s commentary on these verses explains the Catholic teaching concerning the dispersal of most of the Abrahamic Jews from the Holy Land by the pagan Romans, explaining how the first attempt by the Jews to resettle in the Holy Land under the reign of Julian the Apostate resulted in their own destruction of the last remaining stones of the Temple of Herod:
After the fatigues of preaching and teaching, Jesus towards evening left the temple, as it is in the Greek, eporeueto apo tou ierou, and went towards Mount Olivet, where he was accustomed to spend his nights, as we learn from St. Luke, chap. xxi. ver. 37. (Jansenius) — His disciples came to shew him the buildings, not moved by curiosity, for they had seen them frequently before, but by pity; because he had on a former occasion, and only just before in Jerusalem, threatened the destruction of the temple and city, hoping that the splendour and magnificence of so fine a structure, consecrated to God, might alter his determination, as St. Hilary observes. But the anger of God, provoked by sins, is not to be appeased with stones and buildings. He therefore answered them: (Jansenius)
Ver. 2. Do you see all these things? Examine again and again all this magnificence, that the sentence of heaven may appear more striking. — A stone upon a stone. We need not look on this as an hyperbole. The temple burnt by the Romans, and afterwards even ploughed up. See Gregory of Nazianzus, orat. ii. cont. Julianum; Theodoret, lib. iii. Histor. chap. xx. &c. (Witham) — Julian the apostate, wishing to falsify the predictions of Daniel and of Jesus Christ, attempted to rebuild the temple. For this purpose, he assembled the chief among the Jews, and asking them why they neglected the prescribed sacrifices, was answered, that they could not offer any where else but in the temple of Jerusalem. Upon this he ordered them to repair to Jerusalem, to rebuild their temple, and restore their ancient worship, promising them his concurrence in carrying on the work. This filled the Jews with inexpressible joy. Hence flocking to Jerusalem, they began with scorn and triumph to insult over the Christians. Contributions came in from all parts. The Jewish women stripped themselves of their most costly ornaments. The emperor opened his treasures to furnish every thing necessary for the building. The most able workmen were convened from all parts; persons of the greatest distinction were appointed to direct the work; and the emperor’s friend, Alipius, was set over the whole, with orders to carry on the work without ceasing, and to spare no expense. All materials were laid in to an immense quantity. The Jews of both sexes bore a share in the labour; the women helping to dig the ground, and carry away the rubbish in their aprons and gowns. It is even said that the Jews appointed some pick-axes, spades, and baskets, to be made of silver, for the honour of the work. Till this time the foundations and some ruins of the walls had remained, as appears from St. Cyril, in his catechism xv. n. 15, and Eusebius, Dem. Evang. lib. viii. p. 406. These ruins the Jews first demolished with their own hands, thus concurring to the accomplishment of our Saviour’s prediction. They next began to dig a new foundation, in which many thousands were employed. But what they had thrown up in the day, was, by repeated earthquakes, the night following cast back again into the trench. When Alipius the next day was earnestly pressing on the work, with the assistance of the governor of the province, there issued, says Ammianus Marcellinus, such horrible balls of fire out of the earth near the foundations, as to render the place inaccessible from time to time to the scorched workmen. And the victorious element continuing in this manner obstinately bent, as it were, to drive them to a distance, Alipius, thought proper to abandon, though reluctantly, the enterprise. This great event happened in the beginning of the year 363, and with many very astonishing circumstances is recorded both by Jews and Christians. See the proofs and a much fuller account of this astonishing event, which all the ancient fathers describe as indubitable, in Alban Butler’s life of St. Cyril of Jerusalem, March 18th. Thus they so completely destroyed whatever remained of the ancient temple, that there was not left one stone upon another; nor were they permitted by heaven even to begin the new one. It was, therefore, in direct defiance of God’s Holy Will that Theodore Herzl, the founder of International Zionism, that the Talmudic Jews began to settle in Palestine Transjordan following World War I and then, in massive numbers, following World War II as many of them used the “collective guilt” card for the crimes of the Third Reich even Adolph Hitler was the direct result of the Protestant and Judeo-Masonic effort to overthrow the Social Reign of Christ the King and to marginalize, if not entirely replace, the temporal power of His Catholic Church in all that pertains to the good of souls.
Those who are so ignorant or arrogant to defy God’s Holy Will wind up bringing endless suffering, hardship, and miseries into their own lives if they do not repent of their sins and seek out the ineffable mercy of the Divine Redeemer, Christ the King, in the Sacred Tribunal of Penance after having converted to or, in the case of baptized Catholics, returned to the Holy Faith, outside of which thee is no salvation and without which there can be no true social order. There has been endless conflict in the Middle East since after World War II precisely because of the Zionist claims to lands that do not belong to them any more than they have belonged to their Abrahamic ancestors since 70 A.D.
Thus, although even the State of Israel was founded in bloodshed of Palestinian Arabs, both Christians and Mohammedans, whose ancestors had lived there for centuries, and has been marked by the continual oppression and persecution of Palestinian Arabs to such an extent that most, although not all, of the Christians among them had to flee, its existence is a fait accompli, and, as such, has the right to legitimate self-defense and the protection of its innocent civilian population.
This having been noted, however, the State of Israel has been led by racialists who believe that all Arabs are sub-humans and, at best, are to be tolerated and subject to dislocation and/or extermination as circumstances have “required,” something that has been happening now in Gaza as the Israeli genocide of Palestinian civilians and “humanitarian” aid workers continues unabated in the futile effort to “eradicate” the Hamas terrorist organization even though the Israelis’ barbaric methods is only creating endless cells of future terrorists.
As I have noted so very many times before, those who souls are steeped in the throes of Original Sin are captives to the adversary, who loves to sow the seeds of hatred among men, the zenith of God’s creative handiwork, who are inspired by the forces of darkness to commit numberless Mortal Sins in the objective order of things even though they are entirely unaware of this fact. Barring a miracle of Our Lady’s graces within the souls of the infidel Mohammedans and the faithless Jews who are involved, it is impossible in merely human terms for there ever to have peace in the Middle East as the cycle of violence among men will never stop as long as men are at war with the true God of Divine Revelation, the Most Holy Trinity, by means of hatred for their fellow men, all while as both sides do not see in each other the Divine impress nor the fact that they themselves are redeemed creatures who must treat all others as they would treat Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in the very Flesh.
The current set of hostilities began when Hamas terrorists struck Israeli settlements in the occupied territories, an attack that killed over 1200 and resulted in the seizing of at least three hundred hostages, some of were later killed after being tortured, some of whom have been released, and large number of them, whether dead or alive, still in the hands of Hamas forces. This resulted in, as per usual, massive overresponse on part of the Israeli government, which let loose a furious assault upon civilization population centers, destroying homes and businesses indiscriminately, and forcing many of the survivors to seek refuge in the southern part of Gaza. Despite all their protestations to the contrary, the Israeli Defense Forces do not seek to protect civilians, and the recent attack upon the World Central Kitchen aid workers, which the Israeli government is blaming on artificial intelligence, is just another example of the barbarity used by those who believe themselves to be “chosen” even though Judaism was superseded by Catholicism on Good Friday and ceased being any means of sanctification after 70 A.D.
To two recent news reports:
LONDON (AP) — The words coming from some of Israel’s closest allies have been startling in their vehemence: “appalled,” “outraged,” “no more excuses.”
The Israeli military’s killing of seven aid workers in Gaza has triggered unprecedented criticism from European leaders, who are stepping up calls for a cease-fire and in some cases halting arms sales to Israel as the war’s toll mounts.
The attack on the World Central Kitchen convoy has sharpened the dilemma for European politicians, who are squeezed between support for an ally that suffered a terrible attack on Oct. 7 and growing public pressure to stop a war over which they have little control.
“Nothing justifies such a tragedy,” French Foreign Minister Sébastien Séjourné said after Monday’s attack. U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said he was “appalled” by the deaths of the aid workers, three of whom were British.
Britain summoned the Israeli ambassador for a reprimand over the killings. So did Poland, which lost one of its citizens and whose foreign minister, Radek Sikorski, expressed “moral indignation.”
Beyond Europe, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said attacking aid workers was “absolutely unacceptable,” and Australian leader Anthony Albanese said his country was “outraged.”
Israel said the attack that killed the aid workers and their Palestinian driver was a tragic mistake. Its military dismissed two officers and reprimanded three others, saying they violated the army’s rules of engagement.
Julie Norman, associate professor of politics and international relations at University College London, said unease about the conflict was already growing in Europe, and Monday’s attack “accelerated that and made it much more public.”
“Things that had been said more quietly are now being said much louder,” she said.
When Hamas killed some 1,200 Israelis in a cross-border attack from Gaza on Oct. 7, Israel’s European allies strongly backed its right to strike back.
Within weeks, some were expressing disquiet at the mounting bloodshed. French President Emmanuel Macron called for a cease-fire as early as November. Sunak has moved from backing a “humanitarian pause” to support for a “sustainable cease-fire” contingent on Hamas releasing Israeli hostages and halting attacks.
Germany is one of Israel’s closest allies and, given memories of the Holocaust, treads carefully when criticizing its actions. While remaining careful to stress Israel’s right to defend itself, the government has become increasingly critical of the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz has voiced unease at the war’s toll, asking Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at a meeting last month how any goal can “justify such terribly high costs.”
Palestinians, aid workers and international rights groups say Western outrage over the deaths of foreign aid workers contrasts with the subdued response to the suffering of Gaza residents. More than 33,000 people have been killed, according to the health ministry in the Hamas-run territory, including more than 220 humanitarian workers. Hundreds of thousands of Gazans are on the brink of starvation.
“It’s sad that it has taken an attack on international aid workers” to crystalize leaders’ attention, said Nomi Bar-Yaacov, associate fellow in the International Security Program at international affairs think tank Chatham House. “But that is unfortunately the reality.”
The World Central Kitchen attack has increased pressure on Europe’s governments to move from criticism to suspending arms sales to Israel.
The United Nations’ Human Rights Council passed a nonbinding resolution to that effect Friday. Among European countries in the 47-nation body, only Germany voted against it, as did the United States.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said Thursday that his country had stopped selling weapons to Israel and urged other nations to do the same. In February, Canada announced it would stop future shipments, and the same month a Dutch court ordered the Netherlands to stop the export of F-35 fighter jet parts to Israel — though the Dutch government said it would appeal.
In Britain, more than 600 British jurists, including three retired Supreme Court judges, pressed the government to heed the International Court of Justice’s conclusion that there is a “plausible risk of genocide” in Gaza and stop shipping weapons to Israel.
“I believe we have no choice but to suspend arms sales,” said Alicia Kearns, a lawmaker from the governing Conservatives who chairs the House of Commons foreign affairs committee. “U.K. arms export licenses require a recipient to comply with international humanitarian law.”
Suspending arms sales would be a major political statement by Britain, but it wouldn’t make a big difference to the war. Britain sold just 42 million pounds ($53 million) worth of defense equipment to Israel in 2022, according to the U.K. government.
The only country with major influence is the United States, which has also begun to harden its line toward Israel. President Joe Biden told Netanyahu in a phone call Thursday that continued U.S. support for the war depended on Israel taking more action to protect civilians and aid workers. Hours later, Israel announced it would open new aid routes into Gaza and increase the amount of food and other supplies getting into the territory.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said Friday that Germany expected “the Israeli government to implement its announcements quickly.”
“No more excuses,” she wrote on X — a tone that would have been unthinkable mere months ago.
Germany is the second-biggest weapons supplier to Israel and approved 326.5 million euros ($354 million) in defense exports last year, according to German news agency dpa.
Asked Friday under what circumstances Germany would consider suspending weapons deliveries to Israel, government spokesperson Christiane Hoffmann replied that “weapons exports are always case-by-case decisions … taking into consideration political and human rights questions.”
Bar-Yaacov said a decision by European countries to stop arms supplies unless Israel complies with international law would “make a huge difference” by increasing pressure on the United States to take its own tough action.
“The question,” she said, “is how much pressure and how much leverage is President Joe Biden prepared to put on Prime Minister Netanyahu in order to ensure that the war ends?” (Aid worker deaths have appalled Israel's European allies. Some are considering a halt to arms sales.)
DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) — An Israeli airstrike that demolished Iran’s consulate in Syria on Monday killed two Iranian generals and five officers, according to Iranian officials. The strike appeared to signify an escalation of Israel’s targeting of military officials from Iran, which supports militant groups fighting Israel in Gaza, and along its border with Lebanon.
Since the war in Gaza began nearly six months ago, clashes have increased between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah militants based in Lebanon. Hamas, which rules Gaza and attacked Israel on Oct. 7, is also backed by Iran.
Israel, which rarely acknowledges strikes against Iranian targets, said it had no comment on the latest attack in Syria, although a military spokesman blamed Iran for a drone attack early Monday against a naval base in southern Israel.
Israel has grown increasingly impatient with the daily exchanges of fire with Hezbollah, which have escalated in recent days, and warned of the possibility of a full-fledged war. Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen have also been launching long-range missiles toward Israel, including on Monday.
The airstrike in Syria killed Gen. Mohammad Reza Zahedi, who led the elite Quds Force in Lebanon and Syria until 2016, according to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard. It also killed Zahedi’s deputy, Gen Mohammad Hadi Hajriahimi, and five other officers.
A member of Hezbollah, Hussein Youssef, also was killed in the attack, an official with the militant group told The Associated Press. The official spoke on condition of anonymity in line with group’s rules. Hezbollah has not publicly announced the death.
Hezbollah offered condolences to Iran for Zahedi’s death and called Israel “foolish when it believes that liquidating the leaders can stop the roaring tide of the people’s resistance.” It added in its statement that the killing “will not pass without the enemy receiving punishment and revenge.”
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which is based in Britain, said two Syrians also were killed.
Two police officers who guarded the consulate were among those wounded, and first responders were still searching for bodies under the rubble.
While Iran’s consular building was leveled in the attack, according to Syria’s state news agency, its main embassy building remained intact. Still, the Iranian ambassador’s residence was inside the consular building.
Iran’s ambassador, Hossein Akbari, vowed revenge for the strike “at the same magnitude and harshness.”
Hamas and Islamic Jihad — another Palestinian militant group backed by Iran — accused Israel of seeking to widen the conflict in Gaza.
Experts said there was no doubt that Iran would retaliate. The strike in Syria was a “major escalation,” Charles Lister, a Syria expert at the Middle East Institute in Washington, said on the social media platform X.
A spokesman for Iran’s foreign ministry, Nasser Kanaani, called on other countries to condemn the strike.
Israel has attacked scores of Iranian-linked targets in Syria over the years with the apparent intent of disrupting arms transfers and other cooperation with Hezbollah. which has sent thousands of fighters to support Syrian President Bashar Assad’s forces.
An Israeli airstrike in a Damascus neighborhood in December killed a longtime Iranian Revolutionary Guard adviser to Syria, Seyed Razi Mousavi.
A similar strike on a building in Damascus in January killed at least five Iranian advisers. Last week, an Iranian adviser was killed in airstrikes over the eastern Syrian province of Deir el-Zour, near the Iraqi border.
The chief spokesman for Israel’s army, Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, said a Monday drone attack on a naval base in southern Israel was “directed by Iran” and caused no injuries.

Even though the Israeli Defense Forces are said to be engaged in a “tactical withdrawal” from southern Gaza (Israel withdraws all ground troops from southern Gaza, leaving just one IDF brigade in the enclave), none of this ends well as the Iranians are as noted for “turning the other cheek” as are the Israelis themselves.
Anyone expecting Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr., to do anything than straddle the line by doing just enough to keep his Talmudic base of support in the United States of America pacified while also trying to appease the pro-Palestinian faction within the organized crime family of the false opposite of the naturalist “left” is not thinking clearly. Biden has put American forces in harm’s way to protect the “only democracy” in the Holy Land while trying to put pressure upon Benjamin Netanyahu at the same time. Not a profile in courage, of course.’
The fact that the vocal supporters of the Palestinian cause in the United States of America and elsewhere in the world are “leftists” of one sort or another, right to and including Marxists themselves, should be of no concern to believing Catholics as it is sometimes the case that all the “wrong” people are right about an issue, albeit for the wrong reasons. Robert Francis Kennedy, Jr., for example, is very right about vaccines in general and the poisoned jabs produced during former President Donald John Trump’s warped Operation Warp Speed but he is very wrong about almost everything else, including the hoax that is “climate change” and his unrepentant support for the chemical and surgical execution of innocent preborn children (see RFK Jr. says he would codify nationwide 'right' to abortion if elected president). We no more support the agenda of the pro-Palestinian sympathizers beyond agreeing with them about the ongoing Israeli genocide against the Palestinians as we can no more support Robert Francis Kennedy’s pro-abortion, statist agenda beyond agreeing with him about the harm done by the “vaccines” and commending for the work has done documenting the trail of death and destruction left by Anthony Fauci throughout his wretched, sociopathic career.
Additionally, it should be noted that Catholics are opposed to the policies of the Israeli government and to the falsity of its Talmudic religion while wishing no harm to innocent Israelis nor to Jews in general. Our Blessed Lord and Saviour wants us to work, if only by means of our prayers for the conversion of the Jews just as much as He wants us to work and to pray for the conversion of the Mohammedans as it is His will that no one but no one should die as slaves to the devil by means of Original and/or Mortal Sin:
But if the wicked do penance for all his sins which he hath committed, and keep all my commandments, and do judgment, and justice, living he shall live, and shall not die. I will not remember all his iniquities that he hath done: in his justice which he hath wrought, he shall live. Is it my will that a sinner should die, saith the Lord God, and not that he should be converted from his ways, and live? But if the just man turn himself away from his justice, and do iniquity according to all the abominations which the wicked man useth to work, shall he live? all his justices which he hath done, shall not be remembered: in the prevarication, by which he hath prevaricated, and in his sin, which he hath committed, in them he shall die. And you have said: The way of the Lord is not right. Hear ye, therefore, O house of Israel: Is it my way that is not right, and are not rather your ways perverse?
For when the just turneth himself away from his justice, and committeth iniquity, he shall die therein: in the injustice that he hath wrought he shall die. And when the wicked turneth himself away from his wickedness, which he hath wrought, and doeth judgment, and justice: he shall save his soul alive. Because he considereth and turneth away himself from all his iniquities which he hath wrought, he shall surely live, and not die. And the children of Israel say: The way of the Lord is not right. Are not my ways right, O house of Israel, and are not rather your ways perverse? Therefore will I judge every man according to his ways, O house of Israel, saith the Lord God. Be converted, and do penance for all your iniquities: and iniquity shall not be your ruin.
Cast away from you all your transgressions, by which you have transgressed, and make to yourselves a new heart, and a new spirit: and why will you die, O house of Israel? For I desire not the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord God, return ye and live. (Ezechiel 18: 21-32.)
But if thou tell the wicked man, that he may be converted from his ways, and he be not converted from his way: he shall die in his iniquity: but thou hast delivered thy soul. Thou therefore, O son of man, say to the house of Israel: Thus you have spoken, saying: Our iniquities, and our sins are upon us, and we pine away in them: how then can we live?
Say to them: As I live, saith the Lord God, I desire not the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way, and live. Turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways: and why will you die, O house of Israel? Thou therefore, O son of man, say to the children of thy people: The justice of the just shall not deliver him, in what day soever he shall sin: and the wickedness of the wicked shall not hurt him, in what day soever he shall turn from his wickedness: and the just shall not be able to live in his justice, in what day soever he shall sin. Yea, if I shall say to the just that he shall surely live, and he, trusting in his justice, commit iniquity: all his justices shall be forgotten, and in his iniquity, which he hath committed, in the same shall he die. And if I shall say to the wicked: Thou shalt surely die: and he do penance for his sin, and do judgment and justice, And if that wicked man restore the pledge, and render what he had robbed, and walk in the commandments of life, and do no unjust thing: he shall surely live, and shall not die.
None of his sins, which he hath committed, shall be imputed to him: he hath done judgment and justice, he shall surely live. (Ezechiel 33: 9-16.)
We may not be given by Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to see the fruit of our prayers and acts of reparation as we live in this passing, mortal vale of tears as members of the Church Militant on earth. The people for whom we offer our prayers and acts of reparation may resist the graces sent to them through the loving hands of Our Lady, the Mediatrix of All Graces, to convert. We have nothing to fear. Our Lady will direct the fruit of those prayers to some other deserving soul. No prayer is ever wasted. None. Ever. At any time.
Each soul for whom we pray is worth every effort. After all, that soul, like ours, has been redeemed by the shedding of every single drop of the Most Precious Blood of the Divine Redeemer, Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and is thus dear to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, she who stood so valiantly at the foot of the Cross, is it not? We must pray ceaselessly, pray without looking for results, pray without expecting consolation in this life, pray our Rosaries with confidence that the Spiritual Works of Mercy we perform in this life for other might just cancel out the debt of a multitude of our sins, please God and by her maternal intercession we persist until the end in states of Sanctifying Grace, for we have been purchased at quite a price:
Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed? And he shall grow up as a tender plant before him, and as a root out of a thirsty ground: there is no beauty in him, nor comeliness: and we have seen him, and there was no sightliness, that we should be desirous of him: Despised, and the most abject of men, a man of sorrows, and acquainted with infirmity: and his look was as it were hidden and despised, whereupon we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our infirmities and carried our sorrows: and we have thought him as it were a leper, and as one struck by God and afflicted. But he was wounded for our iniquities, he was bruised for our sins: the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and by his bruises we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray, every one hath turned aside into his own way: and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was offered because it was his own will, and he opened not his mouth: he shall be led as a sheep to the slaughter, and shall be dumb as a lamb before his shearer, and he shall not open his mouth. He was taken away from distress, and from judgment: who shall declare his generation? because he is cut off out of the land of the living: for the wickedness of my people have I struck him. And he shall give the ungodly for his burial, and the rich for his death: because he hath done no iniquity, neither was there deceit in his mouth. And the Lord was pleased to bruise him in infirmity: if he shall lay down his life for sin, he shall see a long-lived seed, and the will of the Lord shall be prosperous in his hand.
Because his soul hath laboured, he shall see and be filled: by his knowledge shall this my just servant justify many, and he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore will I distribute to him very many, and he shall divide the spoils of the strong, because he hath delivered his soul unto death, and was reputed with the wicked: and he hath borne the sins of many, and hath prayed for the transgressors. (Isaias 53: 1-12)
This holds true for all non-Catholics, including Mohammedans and Jews, as well as for ourselves, who are in need of constant conversion away from our own sins and self-centeredness to growth in spiritual perfection as befits redeemed creatures who know that they have redeemed by the shedding of every single drop of the Most Precious Blood of Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, very Word, the Logos Who was made Flesh by the power of God the Holy Ghost at the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, whose feast we celebrate today.
Thus, as noted at the beginning of this commentary, we pray on this transferred Feast of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in thanksgiving for Our Lady’s perfect obedience to the will of God the Father and for the fact that the very Second Person of the Most Blessed Trinity became Incarnate in her Virginal and Immaculate Womb to win our salvation on the wood of the Holy Cross, a victory He made manifest at the Resurrection and which He desires for all men, including those in the Holy Land, to enjoy with Him in Paradise.
May the Joyful Mysteries of Our Lady’s Most Holy Rosary that we pray today help usher in the day when those who are bitter enemies now will exclaim the joyful refrain that is pronounced at every true offering of the Holy Mass of the Roman Rite: Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini. Hosanna in excelsis!
